1-[Phen-yl(pyridin-2-yl-amino)-meth-yl]-2-naphthol.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(22)H(18)N(2)O, was synthesized from naphthalen-2-ol, benzaldehyde and pyridin-2-amine. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric R(2) (2)(16) dimers by pairs of O-H?N hydrogen bonds. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by an N-H?O hydrogen bond. The dihedral angle between the naphthylene ring system and the phenyl ring is 72.86?(12)°.

In the crystal, the hy-droxy substituent is a hydrogen-bond donor to the N atom of the pyridine ring of an adjacent mol-ecule, and the hydrogen bond generates a chain along the b axis; it is also a hydrogen-bond acceptor to the amino group of another adjacent mol-ecule. The two hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of a layer structure.

Project description:The asymetric unit of the title compound, [Fe(C5H5)(C17H13N2)], contains two independent mol-ecules whose conformations differ, especially in the 4-{(pyridin-4-yl)methyl-idene]amino}-phenyl unit where one is flipped by almost 180°. The cyclo-penta-dienyl rings of the ferrocene unit also exhibit different staggered conformations: in one mol-ecule the conformation is staggered by 9.43?(2)° and in the other by 24.46?(1)° from an ideal eclipsed geometry. The plane of the benzene ring is tilted away from the ferrocene group in both mol-ecules, with dihedral angles of 6.97?(1) and 10.30?(2)°. The benzene ring is also slightly twisted from the plane of the pyridine ring, with dihedral angles of 5.98?(2) and 6.51?(2)° in the two mol-ecules.
