ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(36)H(30)NP(2) (+)·Cl(-), crystallized in the solvate-free form from a CH(3)CN/OEt(2) solution. The chloride anion and the N atom of the [(Ph(3)P)(2)N](+) cation are located on a twofold axis, yielding overall symmetry 2 for the cation. The central P-N-P angle [133.0?(3)°] is at the low end of the range of observed P-N-P angles.

Removal of Triphenylphosphine Oxide by Precipitation with Zinc Chloride in Polar Solvents.

Project description:While the use of triphenylphosphine as a reductant is common in organic synthesis, the resulting triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) waste can be difficult to separate from the reaction product. While a number of strategies to precipitate TPPO are available, none have been reported to work in more polar solvents. We report here that mixing ZnCl2 with TPPO precipitates a TPPO-Zn complex in high yield in several common polar organic solvents. The solvent compatibility of this procedure and the reliability of the precipitation in the presence of polar functional groups were examined to show the utility and limitations of this method.

A novel and highly efficient esterification process using triphenylphosphine oxide with oxalyl chloride.

Project description:Triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) and oxalyl chloride ((COCl)2) are used as novel and high-efficiency coupling reagents for the esterification of alcohols with carboxylic acids via the TPPO/(COCl)2 system at room temperature for 1?h. The reaction represents the first TPPO-promoted esterification under mild and neutral conditions with excellent yields. Furthermore, we proposed a plausible mechanism with the help of 31P NMR spectroscopy.

The dihedral angle between the pyridine and imidazole rings is 62.09?(12)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H?Cl and C-H?Cl inter-actions involving the chloride anion. The pyridine N and the chloride atoms are not involved in inter-molecular inter-actions.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [Ph(3)P=N=PPh(3)](+)[Ph(3)SnCl(2)](-) or (C(36)H(30)NP(2))[Sn(C(6)H(5))(3)Cl(2)], obtained as a by product of the reaction between Ph(3)SnCl and [Ph(3)P=N=PPh(3)](+)·HSeO(3) (-), consists of discrete essentially isolated ions. Both the cation and the anion lie on twofold axes which pass through the central N atom in the cation and through the Sn(IV) atom in the anion. In the crystal, the ions inter-act only through a weak inter-action between the Cl atom of the anion and an H atom of a phenyl ring of the cation.

Project description:The crystal and mol-ecular structures of the title salt, C8H8N3S2 (+)·Cl(-), (I), and salt hydrate, C8H7ClN3S2 (+)·Cl(-)·H2O, (II), are described. The heterocyclic ring in (I) is statistically planar and forms a dihedral angle of 9.05?(12)° with the pendant phenyl ring. The comparable angle in (II) is 15.60?(12)°, indicating a greater twist in this cation. An evaluation of the bond lengths in the H2N-C-N-C-N sequence of each cation indicates significant delocalization of ?-electron density over these atoms. The common feature of the crystal packing in (I) and (II) is the formation of charge-assisted amino-N-H?Cl(-) hydrogen bonds, leading to helical chains in (I) and zigzag chains in (II). In (I), these are linked by chains mediated by charge-assisted iminium-N(+)-H?Cl(-) hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional architecture. In (II), the chains are linked into a layer by charge-assisted water-O-H?Cl(-) and water-O-H?O(water) hydrogen bonds with charge-assisted iminium-N(+)-H?O(water) hydrogen bonds providing the connections between the layers to generate the three-dimensional packing. In (II), the chloride anion and water mol-ecules are resolved into two proximate sites with the major component being present with a site occupancy factor of 0.9327?(18).
