ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(36)H(30)NP(2) (+)·Cl(-), crystallized in the solvate-free form from a CH(3)CN/OEt(2) solution. The chloride anion and the N atom of the [(Ph(3)P)(2)N](+) cation are located on a twofold axis, yielding overall symmetry 2 for the cation. The central P-N-P angle [133.0?(3)°] is at the low end of the range of observed P-N-P angles.

Removal of Triphenylphosphine Oxide by Precipitation with Zinc Chloride in Polar Solvents.

Project description:While the use of triphenylphosphine as a reductant is common in organic synthesis, the resulting triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) waste can be difficult to separate from the reaction product. While a number of strategies to precipitate TPPO are available, none have been reported to work in more polar solvents. We report here that mixing ZnCl2 with TPPO precipitates a TPPO-Zn complex in high yield in several common polar organic solvents. The solvent compatibility of this procedure and the reliability of the precipitation in the presence of polar functional groups were examined to show the utility and limitations of this method.

A novel and highly efficient esterification process using triphenylphosphine oxide with oxalyl chloride.

Project description:Triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) and oxalyl chloride ((COCl)2) are used as novel and high-efficiency coupling reagents for the esterification of alcohols with carboxylic acids via the TPPO/(COCl)2 system at room temperature for 1?h. The reaction represents the first TPPO-promoted esterification under mild and neutral conditions with excellent yields. Furthermore, we proposed a plausible mechanism with the help of 31P NMR spectroscopy.

Both the cation and the anion lie on twofold axes which pass through the central N atom in the cation and through the Sn(IV) atom in the anion. In the crystal, the ions inter-act only through a weak inter-action between the Cl atom of the anion and an H atom of a phenyl ring of the cation.
