ABSTRACT: In the title centrosymmetric dinuclear complex, [Eu(2)(CH(3)CO(2))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the Eu(III) atom is nine-coordinated by two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and seven O atoms from five acetate ligands (two bidentate, three monodentate). The crystal structure is stabilized by ?-? stacking inter-actions between the pyridine and benzene rings of adjacent mol-ecules, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.829?(2)?Å.

Project description:In the title compound, [EuSm(C(12)H(9)O(2))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the metal site is statistically occupied (50:50) by Eu and Sm atoms, forming a centrosymmetric complex. The metal site is nine-coordinate, in a distorted monocapped square-anti-prismatic coordination geometry. Mol-ecules are linked into three chains by C-H⋯π interactions and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The combination of these chains generates a three-dimensional framework structure. One of the bridging naphthalene-1-ace-tate ligands was found to be disordered over two sites; the site occupancies for the naphthylmethyl group refined to 0.628 (14) and 0.372 (14).

The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions and weak aromatic π-π inter-actions between phen mol-ecules and the aromatic rings of the L ligands [centroid-centroid distance = 3.821 (2) Å].

Project description:The title complex, [Eu(2)(C(11)H(7)O(3))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·2H(2)O, has a centrosymmetric binuclear cage structure in which the two Eu(III) ions are both nine-coordinated and bridged by 6-hy-droxy-1-naphthoate (L) ligands, with an Eu? Eu separation of 4.1594?(4)?Å. The remaining coordination sites are occupied by two N atoms from one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and two O atoms from an L ligand. The six 6-hydr-oxy-1-naphthoate groups coordinate each Eu(III) atom in three different ways, namely ?(2)-?(1):?(1)-bridging, ?(1)-?(1):?(1)-chelating, and ?(2)-?(1):?(2)-chelating/bridging modes. Adjacent discrete dinuclear units are linked into a two-dimensional sheet parallel to (011) by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The sheets are cross-linked by water mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional network. In addition, ?-? stacking inter-actions, with a centroid-centroid separation of 3.547?(2)?Å are observed.

Strong inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions consolidate the crystal packing. The F atoms of the anion are disordered over two positions in a 0.5233 (3):0.4767 (3) ratio.

The Eu atom is in a pseudo-bicapped square-anti-prismatic geometry, formed by four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands and by six O atoms, four from two 2,6-dihy-droxy-benzoate (DHB) ligands and the other two from a nitrate anion. ?-? stacking inter-actions between phen and DHB ligands [centroid-centroid distances = 3.5312?(19) and 3.8347?(16)?Å], and between phen and phen ligands [face-to-face separation = 3.433?(4)?Å] of adjacent complexes stabilize the crystal structure. Intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed in the DHB ligands.

Each of the four phenoxy-acetate anions bridges the pair of Mn atoms. The asymmetric unit is completed by a half-occupancy methanol solvent mol-ecule. Face-to-face π-π stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline molecules belonging to adjacent Mn(2) complexes, with an inter-planar separation of circa 3.4 Å, and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the dinuclear units into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

The crystal structure features head-to-tail stacking of the phenanthroline ligands. The tetra-fluorido-borate anions are positioned in the channels between the cation stacks running along the a axis, and form weak C-H⋯F interactions.
