ABSTRACT: In the crystal structure of the title monohydrate salt, [ZnCl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)][BiCl(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·H(2)O, the ionic components are linked into three-dimensional supra-molecular channels by five pairs of C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking inter-actions with an inter-planar distance of 3.643?(2)?Å. The solvent water mol-ecules are lodged in the channels.

Project description:In the title complex, [PtCl(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·H(2)O, the Pt(4+) ion is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral environment by two N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and by four Cl atoms. As a result of the different trans effects of the N and Cl atoms, the Pt-Cl bonds trans to the N atom are slightly shorter than those trans to the Cl atom. The compound displays inter-molecular ?-? inter-actions between the six-membered rings, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.834?Å. There are also weak intra-molecular C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. According to the IR spectrum, solvent water was present in the crystal, but owing to the high thermal motion of the uncoordinated O atom, the H atoms could not be detected.

The Co(III) cation is chelated by a carbonate anion and two phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. A three-dimensional supra-molecular structure is formed by O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonding, C-H?? and aromatic ?-? stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.995?(1)Å] inter-actions.

Project description:In the title dinuclear complex, [Tb(2)(C(8)H(7)O(3))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], each Tb(III) ion is eight-coordinated by two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and six O atoms from the carboxyl-ate groups of five 4-methoxy-benzoate ligands in a distorted square-anti-prismatic geometry. All six 4-methoxy-benzoate ligands act in a bidentate mode, two coordinating to one Tb center each and the other four bridging two Tb centers [Tb?Tb separation = 4.3144?(6)?Å]. In the crystal, inter-molecular ?-? inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline and 4-methoxy-benzoate ligands [centroid-centroid distance = 3.742?(9)?Å] link two mol-ecules into a centrosymmetric dimer. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds help to consolidate the crystal packing.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title complex, [Zn(2)Cl(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], each of the two five-coordinated Zn(II) atoms displays a strongly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry defined by two N atoms from the chelate ligand and by one terminal and two bridging chloride anions. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. There is inter-molecular π-π stacking between adjacent phenanthroline ligands, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.151 (3) Å.

The [CuCl(phen))(2)](+) cation contains a five-coordinate Cu(2+) ion, ligated by two bidentate phen ligands and one Cl(-) ion, exhibiting a distorted CuN(4)Cl trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In the [Tb(NO(3))(4)(phen)](-) anion, the Tb(3+) ion is coordinated by one chelating phen ligand and four chelating nitrates, forming a distorted TbN(2)O(8) bicapped dodeca-hedral configuration. The anions and cations are assembled into a three-dimensional network by weak C-H?Cl and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. There is also a significant ?-? stacking inter-action, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.635?(2)?Å.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [CrCl(C12H8N2)2(H2O)][ZnCl4]·H2O, has been determined from synchrotron data. The Cr(III) ion is bonded to four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, one water mol-ecule and a Cl atom in a cis arrangement, displaying an overall distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The Cr-N(phen) bond lengths are in the range of 2.0495?(18) to 2.0831?(18)?Å, while the Cr-Cl and Cr-(OH2) bond lengths are 2.2734?(7) and 1.9986?(17)?Å, respectively. The tetra-hedral [ZnCl4](2-) anion is slightly distorted owing to its involvement in O-H?Cl hydrogen bonding with coordinating and non-coordinating water mol-ecules. The two types of water mol-ecules also inter-act through O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The observed hydrogen-bonding pattern leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure.

The cations and anions are linked by O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds across a center of inversion, forming a hydrogen-bonded dimeric association. The dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two orientations in a 0.56?(1):0.44?(1) ratio.
