ABSTRACT: In the centrosymmetric dinuclear title complex, [Hg(2)Cl(4)(C(12)H(9)N(3)O(2))(2)], the Hg(II) ion is in a distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment formed by the N atoms of the diimine ligand, two bridging Cl atoms and one terminal Cl atom. One of the bridging Hg-Cl bonds is significantly longer than the other.

Project description:In the centrosymmetric binuclear molecule of the title complex, [Hg(2)Cl(4)(C(14)H(14)N(2))(2)], the five-coordinated Hg(II) ions have a distorted square-pyramidal geometry defined by two N atoms belonging to the chelating imino-pyridine ligand and three Cl atoms. The benzene and pyridine rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 56.7 (6)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and π-π inter-actions between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.796 (6) Å].

Project description:The whole mol-ecule of the title complex, [Hg2Cl4(C18H15N3)2], is generated by inversion symmetry. It was synthesized from the pyridine-derived Schiff base N-phenyl-N'-[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl-idene]benzene-1,4-di-amine (PPMBD). The five-coordinated Hg(2+) ions have a distorted square-pyramidal environment defined by two N atoms, viz. the imine and the other pyridyl [Hg-N = 2.467 (6) and 2.310 (6) Å, respectively] belonging to the bidentate imino-pyridine ligand, and three Cl atoms [Hg-Cl = 2.407 (2), 2.447 (2) and 3.031 (2) Å]. The longest Hg-Cl bond is bridging about the inversion centre. In the ligand, the central ring and pyridine ring are oriented at a dihedral angle of 8.1 (4)°, while the planes of the pyridine ring and the terminal phenyl ring are oriented at a dihedral angle of 53.8 (4)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming sheets parallel to (001).

Project description:A tetra-nuclear ZnII complex, [Zn4(C13H11N6O)2Cl6(H2O)2] or {[Zn2(HL)(H2O)(Cl2)](μCl)2[Zn2(HL)(H2O)(Cl)]}2, was synthesized by mixing an equimolar amount of a methanol solution containing ZnCl2 and a methanol solution containing the ligand H2 L [1,5-bis-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-ene)carbono-hydrazide]. In the tetra-nuclear complex, each of the two ligand mol-ecules forms a dinuclear unit that is connected to another dinuclear unit by two bridging chloride anions. In each dinuclear unit, one ZnII cation is penta-coordinated in a N2OCl2 in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry, while the other ZnII cation is hexa-coordinated in a N3OCl2 environment with a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The basal plane around the penta-coordinated ZnII cation is formed by one chloride anion, one oxygen atom, one imino nitro-gen atom and one pyridine nitro-gen atom with the apical position occupied by a chloride anion. The basal plane of the hexa-coordinated ZnII cation is formed by one chloride anion, one hydrazinyl nitro-gen atom, one imino nitro-gen atom and one pyridine nitro-gen atom with the apical positions occupied by a water oxygen atom and a bridged chloro anion from another dinuclear unit, leading to a tetra-nuclear complex. A series of intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds is observed in each tetra-nuclear unit. In the crystal, the tetra-nuclear units are connected by inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a planar two-dimensional structure in the ac plane.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd2Cl4(C18H14N4O)2], was obtained from the reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O with 2-phenyl-pyridine-keton picolinoyl hydrazone and sodium chloride. Each Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by two N atoms and one O atom of the tridentate ligand and three chloride anions, forming a distorted CdNOCl3 octahedron. Each pair of adjacent metal cations is linked by two bridging chloride ligands, resulting in a dinuclear complex unit. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by intra-molecular N-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by nonclassical C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. In addition, π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.777 (2) and 3.631 (2) Å] contribute to the stabilization of the crystal packing.

The bridging function of the Cl(-) anions leads to polymeric chains running along the a axis. One Hg-Cl bond is much longer than the other. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cd(2)Cl(4)(C(5)H(8)N(2))(3)](n), contains two Cd(II) cations, three 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligands, and four Cl(-) anions. The two Cd(II) atoms have quite different coordination environments: one is octa-hedrally coordinated by four Cl atoms and two N atoms from two 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligands, and the second is in a severely distorted fivefold coordination by four Cl atoms and one N atom from a 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligand. Adjacent Cd(II) cations are inter-connected alternately by pairs of chloride bridges, generating an infinite step-like chain along the a axis. One ethyl group of the 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligand is disordered over two sets of sites with a 0.668 (13):0.332 (13) site-occupancy ratio.

Project description:The title compound, [ZnCl2(C8H11N)2], was synthesized by the reaction of zinc dichloride and 4-ethyl-aniline. The Zn(2+) cation is coordinated by two Cl(-) anions and the N atoms of two 4-ethyl-aniline ligands, forming a distorted Zn(N2Cl2) tetra-hedron. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 85.3 (2)° The Zn atom lies on a twofold rotation axis. The ethyl substituents are disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.74 (2):0.26 (2) ratio. In the crystal, N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into sheets perpendicular to the a axis. C-H⋯Cl inter-actions also occur.

Project description:The centrosymmetric dinuclear title compound, [Zn(2)Cl(4)(C(4)H(12)N(2))(2)], is isostructural with its previously reported Cu(II) analogue [Phelps, Goodman & Hodgson (1976 ▶). Inorg. Chem.15, 2266-2270]. In the title compound, each of the Zn(II) ions is coordinated by two N atoms from a chelating N,N-dimethyl-ethylenediamine ligand, two bridging Cl atoms and one terminal Cl atom. The coordination environment is distorted square-pyramidal. The Zn-Cl bond distances of the two bridging Cl atoms are distinctly different: the equatorial Cl atom exbibits a Zn-Cl distance of 2.318 (1) Å and the axial Cl atom exbibits a Zn-Cl distance of 2.747 (2) Å, which is significantly longer. The mol-ecule can thus be seen as a dimer of two nearly square-planar monomeric units which are related to each other by an inversion center located in the middle of the dimer. Within one monomeric unit, the Zn atom, the two N atoms and the two Cl atoms are almost coplanar, with a mean deviation of only 0.05 (1) Å from the associated least-squares plane. The Zn⋯Zn distance within the dimer is 3.472 (3) Å. N-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bond inter-actions connect neighboring mol-ecules with each other.

Project description:In the title complex, [PtCl2(C5H11N)(C6H6N2O2)], the Pt(II) metal atom displays a slightly distorted trans-PtN2Cl2 square-planar coordination geometry. The dihedral angle between the mean plane of the benzene and piperidine rings is 89.03 (3)°. In the crystal structure, inversion dimers are formed via N-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bond inter-actions, resulting in chains parallel to the [001] direction. The benzene rings within the chains show π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.801 (3) Å] and neighbouring chains inter-act via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
