Rac-(1R,2S,6R,7R)-4-{[(1E)-(2-Chloro-phen-yl)methyl-idene]amino}-1-isopropyl-7-methyl-4-aza-tricyclo-[5.2.2.0]undec-8-ene-3,5-dione.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(21)H(23)ClN(2)O(2), was synthesized from N-amino-?-terpinene maleimide and 2-chloro-benzaldehyde. There are two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit which are linked via an inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bond. The crystal studied was found to be a partial merohedral twin, with a 0.74?(7):0.26?(7) domain ratio.

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(20)N(2)O(2), the six-membered pyran ring adopts a half-chair conformation with one C atom deviating from the mean plane of the remaining ring atoms by 0.654 (6) Å. The five-membered isoxazole ring adopts an N-envelope conformation with the N atom displaced by 0.742 (5) Å from the mean plane formed by the remaining ring atoms. The carbonitrile side chain is almost linear, with a C-C-N angle of 178.6 (5)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular C-H⋯N inter-actions, through bifurcated acceptor hydrogen bonds formed between the carbonitrile N atom and two alternate C atoms in the unsubstituted benzene ring. The mol-ecular structure and crystal packing are further stabilized by intra-molecular and inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(12)H(21)NO, has been investigated to establish the absolute stereochemistry at position 1. The absolute stereochemistry at the quaternary centre at position 6 is established to be R using an asymmetric Birch reductive alkyl-ation reaction for which the stereochemical outcome is known. The crystal structure indicates the presence of two conformers of the bicyclic (1R,6R)-spiro-lactam ring system that differ in the conformation adopted by the six-membered ring. In one conformer, the meth-yl group adopts an axial position whereas in the other conformer, the same methyl group adopts an equatorial position. In both conformers, the seven-membered ring adopts a chair conformation. The two conformers of the bicyclic spiro-lactam are connected to each other via inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds forming a heterodimer. The asymmetric unit contains two such dimers.
