2-Ethyl-imidazolium terephthalate.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(5)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(8)H(5)O(4) (-), consists of one protonated 2-ethyl-imidazolium cation and two half terephthalate anions. The anions and cations are linked through N-H?O hydrogen bonds while the anions are associated via O-H?O inter-actions, resulting in a layered structure. The ethyl group of the cation is disordered over twosites of occupancies 0.812?(14) and 0.188?(14). The hydroxy H atoms of the anions are equally disordered over two symmetry-related sites.

The [EuBr(6)](3-) anions are located at the corners and face-centres of the monoclinic unit cell. Characteristic hydrogen-bonding inter-actions can be observed between the bromide anions and the acidic H atoms of the imidazolium cations.

Project description:The title compound, {(C(6)H(11)N(2))[CrCl(3)]}(n), was generated via mixing of the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride with CrCl(2) in ethanol. Crystals were obtained by a diffusion method. In the crystal structure, the anion forms one-dimensional chains of chloride-bridged Jahn-Teller distorted chromium(II) centers extending along the [100] direction. The imidazolium cations are positioned between these chains.

Project description:The title Schiff base compound, C(13)H(16)N(3)O(+)·PF(6) (-), was derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxy-benaldehyde with the ionic liquid 1-(2-amino-ethyl)-3-methyl-imidazolium hexa-fluoro-phosphate in an ethanol solution. The asymmetric unit comprises one cation and two PF(6) (-) anions. The dihedral angle between the aromatic and imidazole rings is 15.2 (2)°. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is found which generates an S(6) ring motif.

The asymmetric unit contains two [emim](+) cations and one-half of the [?-Mo(8)O(26)](4-) tetra-anion, which occupies a special position on an inversion centre. The ?-[Mo(8)O(26)](4-) tetra-anion features eight distorted MoO(6) coordination octa-hedra linked together through bridging O atoms.

Project description:Cocrystallization of 1-hydroxy-ethyl-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (metronidazole) and 5-sulfosalicylic acid (5-H(2)SSA) from methanol solution yields the title salt, C(6)H(10)N(3)O(3) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(6)S(-). In the crystal structure, the ions are linked by a combination of inter-molecular O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework. The hydroxyl group of the cation is disordered over two sites in a 0.860?(4):0.140?(4) ratio.

Diffusion of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate in glucose, cellobiose, and cellulose solutions.

Project description:Solutions of glucose, cellobiose and microcrystalline cellulose in the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium ([C2mim][OAc]) have been examined using pulsed-field gradient (1)H NMR. Diffusion coefficients of the cation and anion across the temperature range 20-70 °C have been determined for a range of concentrations (0-15% w/w) of each carbohydrate in [C2mim][OAc]. These systems behave as an "ideal mixture" of free ions and ions that are associated with the carbohydrate molecules. The molar ratio of carbohydrate OH groups to ionic liquid molecules, α, is the key parameter in determining the diffusion coefficients of the ions. Master curves for the diffusion coefficients of cation, anion and their activation energies are generated upon which all our data collapses when plotted against α. Diffusion coefficients are found to follow an Arrhenius type behavior and the difference in translational activation energy between free and associated ions is determined to be 9.3 ± 0.9 kJ/mol.

Structure of copper(II) complexes grown from ionic liquids - 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate or chloride.

Project description:Crystals of four new copper(II) complexes have been grown from copper(II) acetate/chloride-1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate/chloride-water systems and characterized by X-ray analysis. The first complex, bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-?-acetato-bis[chloridocuprate(II)], [Emim]2[Cu2(C2H3O2)4Cl2] (1) (Emim is 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium, C6H11N2), contains [Cu2(C2H3O2)4Cl2]2- coordination anions with a paddle-wheel structure and ionic liquid cations. Two of the synthesized complexes are one-dimensional polymers, namely catena-poly[1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium [[tetra-?-acetato-dicuprate(II)]-?-chlorido] monohydrate], {[Emim][Cu2(C2H3O2)4Cl]·H2O} n (2), and catena-poly[1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium [[tetra-?-acetato-dicuprate(II)]-?-acetato]], {[Emim][Cu2(C2H3O2)5]} n (3). In these compounds, the Cu2(C2H3O2)4 units with a paddle-wheel structure are connected to each other through chloride (in 2) or acetate (in 3) anions to form parallel chains, between which cations of ionic liquid are situated. The last compound, bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-?-acetato-bis[aquacopper(II)] tetra-?-acetato-bis[acetatocuprate(II)] dihydrate, [Emim]2[Cu2(C2H3O2)4(H2O)2][Cu2(C2H3O2)6]·2H2O (4), contains two different binuclear coordination units (neutral and anionic), connected through hydrogen bonds between water mol-ecules and acetate ions.

Crystal structure of the tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-bromido-cadmate.

Project description:Both unique Cd atoms in the tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-bromido-cadmate, (C6H11N2)2[CdBr4], occupy special positions (site symmetry -4). The crystal structure consists of isolated tetra-hedral [CdBr4](2-) anions which are surrounded by 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium cations. The methyl and ethyl side chains of the cations show positional disorder in a 0.590 (11):0.410 (11) ratio. In the crystal, (C6H11N2)(+) cations display three weak C-H⋯Br hydrogen-bond inter-actions through the imidazolium ring H atoms with the Br(-) ligands of the surrounding complex anions. The alkyl groups of the side chains are not involved in hydrogen bonding.

Project description:The title compound, (C10H21N3)[CuCl4], is composed of one 1-[2-(di-ethyl-aza-nium-yl)eth-yl]-3-methyl-imidazolium dication and a tetra-chlorido-cuprate(II) dianion. The anion adopts a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. Bifurcated interionic N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and several C-H⋯Cl contacts are observed, leading to a layer-like arrangement of the components parallel to (100).
