[1-(1H-Imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthro-lin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol-?N,N]diiodidomercury(II).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [HgI(2)(C(23)H(14)N(4)O)], the Hg(II) atom is four-coordinated by two N atoms from one 1-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol ligand and by two I atoms in a distorted tetra-hedral environment. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond stabilizes the mol-ecular conformation and an inter-molecular N-H?I inter-action stabilizes the crystal packing.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cd(2)(C(8)H(10)O(4))(2)(C(23)H(14)N(4)O)(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O, consists of one half of the dimeric complex, which lies about an inversion centre, and a half-occupancy solvent water mol-ecule on a general position. Each Cd(II) cation is six-coordinated by the two N atoms from one 1-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol (L) ligand and three O atoms from two different 1,4-chdc(2-) ligands (1,4-H(2)chdc = cyclo-hexane-1,4-dicarb-oxy-lic acid), two coordinating in a bidentate fashion and the other in a monodentate fashion. The distorted octa-hedral coordination sphere is completed by a coordinated water mol-ecule. The Cd(II) atoms are each bridged by two 1,4-chdc(2-) ligands, forming an inversion dimer with the L ligands located on the outside of the dimeric unit. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions stabilize the packing.

Project description:In the polymeric title compound, [Cd(C(4)H(2)O(4))(C(19)H(12)N(4)O)(2)](n), the Cd(II) centre is eight-coordinated within an N(4)O(4) donor set derived from two chelating 4-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)phenol ligands and two asymmetrically chelating carboxyl-ate residues of bridging fumarate dianions. The linear chains are linked into a layer in the ac plane via O-H?O(carboxyl-ate) hydrogen bonds. Layers are connected into double layers via N-H?O(carboxyl-ate) hydrogen bonds and these stack along the b axis. C-H?? inter-actions are also present. Disorder in the ethyl-ene portion of the fumarate was modelled over two positions, the major component having a site-occupancy factor of 0.677?(15).

In the mol-ecule of this phenanthroline derivative, the pyridine rings are almost coplanar, making a dihedral angle of 1.54?(13)°. The tri-phenyl-amine group, introduced as an electron donor, shows a propeller-type structure, and the dihedral angles between the benzene rings are 68.71 11), 63.92?(16) and 70.81?(15)°. In the crystal, the phenanthroline mol-ecules are linked via the solvent mol-ecule by N-H?O, O-H?N and C-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of zigzag chains propagating along [010]. These chains are linked via C-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming undulating two-dimensional networks extending in the a- and b-axis directions.
