ABSTRACT: In the title molecular salt, C(7)H(20)N(2) (2+)·2NO(3) (-), the crystal structure exhibits an unusual back-to-back paired double-stacked packing arrangement culminating in an overall double zigzag pattern of the dications. The nitrate anions form a ring around one pair of double-stacked dications. An intricate three-dimensional N-H?O and N-H?(O,O) hydrogen-bonding network exists in the crystal structure.

Project description:In the structure of the title mol-ecular salt, C10H18N2 (2+)·2NO3 (-), the dinitrate salt of 4-(N,N-di-ethyl-amino)-aniline, the two ethyl groups lie almost perpendicular to the plane of the benzene ring [the ring-to-ethyl C-C-N-C torsion angles are -59.5?(2) and 67.5?(3)°]. The aminium groups of the cation form inter-species N-H?O hydrogen bonds with the nitro O-atom acceptors of both anions, giving rise to chain substructures lying along c. The chains are linked via further N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming two-dimensional networks lying parallel to (010). These sheets are linked by C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:In the title salt, C16H24N4 (2+)·2NO3 (-), both the cation and anion are placed in general positions, although the cation displays non-crystallographic inversion symmetry, with the aliphatic chain extended in an all-trans conformation. The benzene rings are almost parallel, with a dihedral angle between their mean planes of 3.3 (6)°. The nitrate ions are placed in the vicinity of the protonated amine groups, forming efficient N-H⋯O inter-ion hydrogen bonds. Each nitrate ion in the asymmetric unit bridges two symmetry-related cations, forming an R 4 (4)(18) ring, a common motif in organic ammonium nitrate salts. This results in the formation of chains along [010] with alternating cations and anions. The neutral amine groups are involved in slightly weaker N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the nitrate O atoms, and there are also a number of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds present. The resulting supra-molecular structure is based on a two-dimensional network extending in the ab plane.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title salt, C8H14N2 (2+)·2NO3 (-), contains two independent dications and four independent nitrate anions. The crystal structure consists of discrete nitrate ions, three of which stack in layers parallel to (001) at z = 0 and 0.5. These layers are connected via m-xylylenediaminium dications. The fourth anion is sandwiched by the two independent organic cations in the asymmetric unit. In the crystal, the ions are connected by a large number of bifurcated and non-bifurcated N-H⋯O(O) hydrogen bonds, forming sheets parallel to (100). These sheets are connected by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.
