ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(15)H(21)N(2)O(5), the imidazoline ring displays a twisted conformation. The mean plane of the imidazoline ring makes a dihedral angle of 22.55?(5)° with the benzene ring. In the crystal, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a layer parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(12)H(17)N(3)O(2) (+)·ClO(4) (-), consists of 4,4,5,5-tetra-methyl-2-(4-pyridinio)imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide radical cations and perchlorate anions. Both the cation and the Cl atom of the anion are located on the same twofold rotation axis, and the crystal structure shows the average structure for the radical cation. The five-membered ring assumes a half-chair conformation. The cation links with the anion via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

The hy-droxy group of the N-bonded alkyl chain forms an inter-molecular hydrogen bond to the other keto O atom of an adjacent mol-ecule. The latter hydrogen bond leads to the formation of a helical chain running along the b axis.
