Cis-Bis{(E)-2-[(2-fluoro-phen-yl)imino-meth-yl]phenolato-?(2) N,O}bis-(pyridine-?N)nickel(II).

ABSTRACT: The structure of the title compound, [Ni(C13H9FNO)2(C5H5N)2], consists of an Ni(II) atom on a crystallographic center of symmetry, octa-hedrally bonded through both the N and O atoms to two 2-[(2-fluoro-phen-yl)imino-meth-yl]phenolate (L) ligands, as well as two pyridine ligands. The F atoms of L are disordered over two positions related by a 180° rotation of the fluoro-phenyl group around its external C-N bond.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Ni(C14H11FNO)2], contains one-half of the mol-ecule with the Ni(II) cation lying on an inversion centre coordinated by a bidentate Schiff base anion. The cationic Ni(II) center is in a distorted square-planar coordination environment chelated by the imine N and phenolate O donor atoms of the two Schiff base ligands. The N and O donor atoms of the two ligands are mutually trans with Ni-N and Ni-O bond lengths of 1.9242?(10) and 1.8336?(9)?Å, respectively. The fluoro-phenyl ring is almost orthogonal to the coordination plane and makes a dihedral angle of 82.98?(7)° with the phenolate ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into screw chains by weak C-H?F hydrogen bonds. Additional C-H?? contacts arrange the mol-ecules into sheets parallel to the ac plane.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu2(C9H10NO2)4], is built of discrete centrosymmetric dimers. The Cu(II) atoms are each five coordinated by two deprotonated Schiff base ligands that are bonded differently to the metal atoms. Of the two phenolate O atoms, one is coordinated to one Cu(II) atom, whereas another bridges the two metal atoms. The basal plane of the square pyramid around Cu(II) atoms is formed by the imino N and phenolate O atoms of the bidentate and the monodentate/bidentate Schiff base ligands. The bridging phenolate oxygen occupies the apical position of the coordination sphere with a considerably longer Cu-O bond length. In the crystal, the dimeric mol-ecules pack relative to each other in such a way that the Cu2O2 planes of adjacent dimers are orthogonal.
