Microwave-assisted synthesis of 5,6-dihydroindolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline derivatives through copper-catalyzed intramolecular N-arylation.

ABSTRACT: An efficient and practical protocol has been developed to synthesize 5,6-dihydroindolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline derivatives by CuI-catalyzed intramolecular N-arylation under microwave irradiation. This method rapidly afforded the tetracyclic products with good to excellent yields (83-97%) in short reaction times (45-60 min).

Project description:A microwave-assisted, sequential, one-pot protocol has been developed for the synthesis of a variety of benzothiadiazin-3-one-1,1-dioxides. This protocol utilizes a copper-catalyzed N-arylation of ?-bromo-benzenesulfonamides with a number of amines to generate the corresponding 2-aminobenzenesulfonamides, which undergo cyclization to the desired sultams using carbonyl diimidazole (CDI). A range of conditions was evaluated for the key C-N bond formation step with tolerance toward functionalized amines.

Copper-catalyzed CuAAC/intramolecular C-H arylation sequence: Synthesis of annulated 1,2,3-triazoles.

Project description:Step-economical syntheses of annulated 1,2,3-triazoles were accomplished through copper-catalyzed intramolecular direct arylations in sustainable one-pot reactions. Thus, catalyzed cascade reactions involving [3 + 2]-azide-alkyne cycloadditions (CuAAC) and C-H bond functionalizations provided direct access to fully substituted 1,2,3-triazoles with excellent chemo- and regioselectivities. Likewise, the optimized catalytic system proved applicable to the direct preparation of 1,2-diarylated azoles through a one-pot C-H/N-H arylation reaction.

Copper-granule-catalyzed microwave-assisted click synthesis of polyphenol dendrimers.

Project description:Syringaldehyde- and vanillin-based antioxidant dendrimers were synthesized via microwave-assisted alkyne-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using copper granules as a catalyst. The use of Cu(I) as a catalyst resulted in copper contaminated dendrimers. To produce copper-free antioxidant dendrimers for biological applications, Cu(I) was substituted with copper granules. Copper granules were ineffective at both room temperature and under reflux conditions (<5% yield). However, they were an excellent catalyst when dendrimer synthesis was performed under microwave irradiation, giving yields up to 94% within 8 h. ICP-mass analysis of the antioxidant dendrimers obtained with this method showed virtually no copper contamination (9 ppm), which was the same as the background level. The synthesized antioxidants, free from copper contamination, demonstrated potent radical scavenging with IC50 values of less than 3 μM in the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. In comparison, dendrimers synthesized from Cu(I)-catalyzed click chemistry showed a high level of copper contamination (4800 ppm) and no detectable antioxidant activity.

Project description:Described herein is a palladium(II)-catalyzed direct arylation of cyclic enaminones with arylboronic acids. The versatility of this method is that both electron-rich and electron-poor boronic acids can be coupled in high yields. A mixture of two Cu(II) additives was crucial for efficient cross-coupling. The role of each Cu(II) reagent appears to be distinct and complementary serving to assist catalyst reoxidation and transmetalation through a putative arylcopper intermediate.

Polymerization of tellurophene derivatives by microwave-assisted palladium-catalyzed ipso-arylative polymerization.

Project description:We report the synthesis of a tellurophene-containing low-bandgap polymer, PDPPTe2T, by microwave-assisted palladium-catalyzed ipso-arylative polymerization of 2,5-bis[(?-hydroxy-?,?-diphenyl)methyl]tellurophene with a diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) monomer. Compared with the corresponding thiophene analog, PDPPTe2T absorbs light of longer wavelengths and has a smaller bandgap. Bulk heterojunction solar cells prepared from PDPPTe2T and PC71 BM show PCE values of up to 4.4%. External quantum efficiency measurements show that PDPPTe2T produces photocurrent at wavelengths up to 1?µm. DFT calculations suggest that the atomic substitution from sulfur to tellurium increases electronic coupling to decrease the length of the carbon-carbon bonds between the tellurophene and thiophene rings, which results in the red-shift in absorption upon substitution of tellurium for sulfur.

This approach enables an efficient construction of chiral differentially protected vicinal diamines under mild conditions with broad functional group tolerance.

Synthesis and Spectral Properties of 8-Anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonic Acid (ANS) Derivatives Prepared by Microwave-Assisted Copper(0)-Catalyzed Ullmann Reaction.

Project description:For decades, the dye 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) has been used to study biological systems due to its environmentally sensitive fluorescent nature and propensity to bind to hydrophobic pockets of proteins. However, the syntheses of ANS and its derivatives have been low yielding, requiring harsh reaction conditions and long reaction times. We have developed efficient, mild microwave-assisted copper(0)-catalyzed Ullmann coupling conditions to synthesize ANS derivatives with yields of up to 74%. Many of these derivatives have spectral properties distinct from ANS, including improved and diminished quantum yields, different absorption and emission maxima, and complete loss of fluorescence. ANS derivatives with these unique fluorescence properties are useful tools to study biological systems.
