Crystal structure of tetra-methyl-tetra-thia-fulvalenium (1S)-camphor-10-sulfonate dihydrate.

ABSTRACT: Electro-oxidation of tetra-methyl-tetra-thia-fulvalene (TMTTF) in the presence of the chiral anion (1S)-camphor-10-sulfonate (S-camphSO3 (-)) in tetra-hydro-furan/water medium afforded a 1/1 salt formulated as TMTTF·S-camphSO3·2H2O or 2-(4,5-dimethyl-1,3-di-thiol-2-yl-idene)-4,5-dimethyl-1,3-di-thiole radical ion (1+) [(1S)-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxobi-cyclo-[2.2.1]heptan-1-yl]methane-sulfonate dihydrate, C10H12S4 (+)·C10H15O4S(-)·2H2O. In this salt, two independent TMTTF units are present but, in both cases, the observed bond lengths and especially the central C=C distance [1.392 (6) and 1.378 (6) Å] are in agreement with a complete oxidation of TMTTF which is thus present as TMTTF (.) (+) radical cations. These cations form one-dimensional stacks in which they are associated two by two, forming dimers with short [3.472 (1) to 3.554 (2) Å] S⋯S contacts. The two S-camphSO3 anions present also form stacks and are connected with each other via the water mol-ecules with many O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds ranging from 1.86 (3) to 2.15 (4) Å; the O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding network can be described as being constituted of C 2 (2)(6) chains bearing R 3 (3)(11) lateral rings. On the other hand, the columns of cations and anions are connected through C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a system expanding in three directions; finally, the result is a three-dimensional network of O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Crystal structure of sodium (1S)-d-lyxit-1-yl-sulfonate.

Project description:The title compound, Na(+)·C5H11O8S(-) [systematic name: sodium (1S,2S,3S,4R)-1,2,3,4,5-penta-hydroxy-pentane-1-sulfonate], is formed by reaction of d-lyxose with sodium bis-ulfite (sodium hydrogen sulfite) in water. The anion has an open-chain structure in which one of the oxygen atoms of the sulfonate residue, the S atom, the C atoms of the sugar chain and the O atom of the hy-droxy-methyl group form an essentially planar zigzag chain with the corresponding torsion angles lying between 179.80?(11) and 167.74?(14)°. A three-dimensional bonding network exists in the crystal structure involving hexa-coordination of sodium ions by O atoms, three of which are provided by a single d-lyxose-sulfonate unit and the other three by two sulfonate groups and one hy-droxy-methyl group, each from separate units of the adduct. Extensive inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding supplements this bonding network.

Project description:The title compound, C(3)H(5)N(2) (+)·C(10)H(15)O(4)S(-), comprises two crystallographically independent ion pairs (A and B) in the asymmetric unit with slightly different conformations due to the disordered methyl groups in the anion of molecule A. Two intra-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds generate S(6) ring motifs. In mol-ecule A, the methyl groups are disordered over two sets of positions with a site-ocuppancy ratio of 0.547?(9):0.453?(9). Extensive inter-molecular N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions occur in the crystal structure which link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network parallel to the (100) plane.

Project description:The structure of the title complex, [Mg(H(2)O)(6)](C(10)H(15)O(4)S)(2), consists of regular octa-hedral [Mg(H(2)O)(6)](2+) cations and d-camphor-10-sulfonate anions. A three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture is formed via hydrogen-bond inter-actions [O-H?O = 2.723?(2)-2.833?(2)?Å] to give alternating layers of [Mg(H(2)O)(6)](2+) cations and d-camphor-10-sulfonate anions. The title compound is isomorphous with the zinc, copper, cadmium and nickel analogues.

Project description:The title compound, K(+)·C5H11O8S(-)·H2O [systematic name: potassium (1S,2S,3S,4R)-1,2,3,4,5-penta-hydroxy-pentane-1-sulfonate monohydrate], formed by reaction of d-lyxose with potassium hydrogen sulfite in water, crystallizes as colourless square prisms. The anion has an open-chain structure in which the S atom, the C atoms of the sugar chain and the oxygen atom of the hy-droxy-methyl group form an essentially all-trans chain with the corresponding torsion angles lying between 178.61 (12) and 157.75 (10)°. A three-dimensional bonding network exists in the crystal structure involving coordination of two crystallographically independent potassium ions by O atoms (one cation being hexa- and the other octa-coordinate, with each lying on a twofold rotation axis), and extensive inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

Project description:The title hydrated mol-ecular organic salt, C10H10N2 (2+)·C10H6O6S2 (2-)·2H2O, crystallized with half a bipyridinium cation, half a naphthalene-2,6-di-sulfonate anion and a water mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The whole cation and anion are generated by inversion symmetry, the inversion centers being at the center of the bridging C-C bond of the cation, and at the center of the fused C-C bond of the naphthalene group of the anion. In the crystal, the anions and cations stack alternately along the a axis with ?-? inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.491?(1)?Å]. The anions are linked via O-H?O(sulfonate) hydrogen bonds involving two inversion-related water mol-ecules, forming chains along [10-1]. These chains are bridged by bifurcated N-H?(O,O) hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework structure. There are also C-H?O hydrogen bonds present, reinforcing the framework structure.

Project description:The title compound, C16H24Br2O, was synthesized from ?-himachalene (3,5,5,9-tetra-methyl-2,4a,5,6,7,8-hexa-hydro-1H-benzocyclo-heptene), which was isolated from the essential oil of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica). The mol-ecule contains fused six- and seven-membered rings, each linked to a three-membered ring. The six-membered ring has a half-chair conformation, while the seven-membered ring displays a chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the mean planes through the six- and seven-membered rings is 39.55?(12)°. The two three-membered rings, linked to the six- and seven-membered rings, are nearly perpendicular to the six-membered ring, making dihedral angles of 78.6?(2) and 80.5?(2)°, respectively. The absolute structure was established unambiguously from anomalous dispersion effects. In the crystal, each mol-ecule is linked to its symmetry-equivalent partner by C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming zigzag chains parallel to [100].

Project description:In the title hydrate, C16H23BrN2O·2H2O, the organic mol-ecule features a strong intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond. The piperidine ring, in addition, adopts a chair conformation with the exocyclic C-N bond in an equatorial orientation. The water molecules of crystallization are disordered (each over two sets of sites with half occupancy. In the crystal, they associate into corrugated (100) sheets of (H2O)4 tetra-mers linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The organic mol-ecules, in turn, are arranged at both sides of these sheets, linked by water-piperidine O-H?N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C16H24Cl2O2, contains two independent mol-ecules (A and B) which are built from three fused rings, viz. a seven-membered heptane ring, a six-membered cyclo-hexyl ring bearing a ketone and an alcohol group, and a cyclo-propane ring bearing two Cl atoms. In the crystal, the two mol-ecules are linked via two O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming an A-B dimer with an R 2 (2)(10) ring motif. The A mol-ecules of these dimers are linked via a C-H?O hydrogen bond, forming chains propagating along the a-axis direction. Both mol-ecules have the same absolute configuration, i.e. 1S,3R,8R,10S, which is based on the synthetic pathway and further confirmed by resonant scattering [Flack parameter = 0.03?(5)].
