Crystal structure of 1-isopropyl-4,7-dimethyl-3-nitro-naphthalene.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C15H17NO2, was synthesized from a mixture of α-himachalene (2-methyl-ene-6,6,9-tri-methylbi-cyclo-[5.4.0(1,7)]undec-8-ene) and β-himachalene (2,6,6,9-tetra-methylbi-cyclo-[5.4.0(1,7)]undeca-1,8-diene), which were isolated from an oil of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus Atlantica). The naphthalene ring system makes dihedral angles of 68.6 (2) and 44.3 (2)°, respectively, with its attached isopropyl C/C/C plane and the nitro group. In the crystal, mol-ecules held together by a C-H⋯O inter-action, forming a chain along [-101].

Crystal structure of 2-meth-oxy-1-nitro-naphthalene.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C11H9NO3, contains two mol-ecules, A and B. In mol-ecule A, the dihedral angle between the planes of the naphthalene ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.003 Å) and the nitro group is 89.9 (2)°, and the C atom of the meth-oxy group deviates from the naphthyl plane by 0.022 (2) Å. Equivalent data for mol-ecule B are 0.008 Å, 65.9 (2)° and -0.198 (2) Å, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming [100] chains of alternating A and B mol-ecules. Weak aromatic π-π stacking contacts, with a range of centroid-centroid distances from 3.5863 (9) to 3.8048 (9) Å, are also observed.

Project description:The title compound, C28H22N2O8, possesses crystallographically imposed twofold symmetry, with the two central carbon atoms of the naphthalene unit lying on the rotation axis. The two benzoyl groups in the mol-ecule are twisted away from the attached naphthalene unit with a C-C-C=O torsion angle of 49.05 (15)° between the naphthalene unit and the carbonyl group. The dihedral angle between the naphthalene ring system and the benzene ring is 77.17 (5)°. In the crystal, pairs of C-H⋯O=C hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a double-column structure along the c axis. The mol-ecules are further linked by C-H⋯O=N hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. C-H⋯π inter-actions between the methyl-ene group and the naphthalene unit and π-π inter-actions between the naphthalene ring systems [centroid-centroid distances of 3.7858 (7)-3.7860 (7) Å] are also observed.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(3)(C(10)H(22)N(2)S(2))(2)](ClO(4))(2), the complex cation consists of a nickel(II) ion and two [Ni(C(10)H(22)N(2)S(2))] units with an N(2)S(2) tetra-dentate ligand, 3,3'-[1,2-ethane-diylbis(methyl-imino)]bis-(1-propane-thiol-ate). The central Ni(II) ion is located on a crystallographic inversion centre and is bound to the four S atoms of the two [Ni(C(10)H(22)N(2)S(2))] units to form a linear sulfur-bridged trimetallic moiety. The dihedral angle between the central NiS(4) plane and the terminal NiN(2)S(2) plane is 145.71 (5)°. In the [Ni(C(10)H(22)N(2)S(2))] unit, the two methyl groups on the chelating N atoms are cis to each other, and the two six-membered N,S-chelate rings adopt a chair conformation. The Ni-S bond lengths and the S-Ni-S bite angles in the central NiS(4) group are similar to those in the [Ni(C(10)H(22)N(2)S(2))] unit.
