The stromal signals that promote B lymphopoiesis remain poorly understood. Hedgehog (Hh) signaling promotes B lymphopoiesis in a non-cell-autonomous fashion in vitro, and depletion of the Hh effector Smoothened (Smo) from stromal cells is associated with the loss of osteoblastoid markers.
