Survey data on digitalization of building procurement process by architectural firms in Abuja, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT: This data article describes the dataset on the digital technologies and applications used by architectural firms in the delivery of building projects. The data set was sourced through a questionnaire survey of 75 registered architectural firms in Abuja, Nigeria. The survey was conducted between December 2017 and January 2018 in the study area. The data, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics, contain the characteristics of architectural firms in Abuja that participated in the survey, the different stand-alone and integrated data acquisition, creation, processing, storage and communication/exchange technologies, applications and tools and intelligent systems the firms use in building procurement process. In addition, the advantages and challenges associated with the use of digital technologies in the procurement of building projects by architectural firms in the study area are also presented in this dataset.

Project description:This article is a description of data related to the research article entitled "Factors influencing e-Procurement adoption in the Nigerian Building Industry" (Ibem et al., 2016) [1]. The data were derived via a questionnaire survey involving 213 participants comprising architects, quantity surveyors, builders, construction/project managers, and engineers working in consulting and contracting firms, private client organisations and government agencies. The survey was conducted in Nigeria between June and November 2015. The data set contains responses on the levels of awareness and extent of use of the different e-Procurement technologies, the barriers to the uptake as well as the factors influencing e-Procurement adoption by organizations in the Nigerian building industry. The survey data and results of the analysis are made available in this article for further use by researchers; and for the purpose of improving understanding of the key findings of the survey.

Project description:Employees' development involves ensuring that employees are compensated fairly, are not exposed to dangerous or environmentally unhealthy working environment and are treated ethically in the workplace, especially in a technology intense industry as that of the oil and gas sector. Thus, this article presents data on the effect of employees' development on employees' satisfaction. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design engaging survey method. The study population consists of 1748 employees from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. A sample size of 350 employees was selected. Data was analysed using statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Regression analysis was employed as the statistical tool of analysis. The field data set is made widely accessible in this article.

Data survey on the effect of product features on competitive advantage of selected firms in Nigeria.

Project description:The main objective of this study was to present a data article that investigates the effect product features on firm's competitive advantage. Few studies have examined how the features of a product could help in driving the competitive advantage of a firm. Descriptive research method was used. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 22) was engaged for analysis of one hundred and fifty (150) valid questionnaire which were completed by small business owners registered under small and medium scale enterprises development of Nigeria (SMEDAN). Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were employed; reliability and validity procedures were also confirmed. The field data set is made publicly available to enable critical or extended analysis.

Survey data on employees' perception of the impact of community development initiatives on the corporate image of oil and gas firms in Nigeria.

Project description:Several sources of today׳s pressure on managers in strategic decision-making are directly associated with social issues rather than traditional strategic management issues. It is believed that firms that invest in community development are more likely to operate in harmony in the society of their operations, as such reduce interference from their host community, thus leading to enhanced corporate image. Therefore, it becomes pertinent to present data to show the existence or otherwise of a relationship between community development initiatives and the firm׳s corporate image. This data is gotten from 336 respondents from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. Responses wee gathered from the employees' of the firms, as it is believed they have first hand information on the firm׳s corporate social responsibility policies. The data is purely descriptive and was gotten through quantitative methods, specifically through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire had two sections; section A contained background questions, while section B consisted of questions that were specific to community development initiatives and corporate image. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency of the questionnaire revealed a reliability coefficient of 0.732, thus revealing a high consistency level. The field data set is made widely accessible to enable critical investigation into the subject.

Survey dataset on factors that influence satisfaction of clients with architectural services in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Project description:The retention of clients of professional service practitioners is often dependent on their satisfaction with the services they obtain. This article presents data on the factors that influence the satisfaction of clients with architectural services in Lagos State, Nigeria. Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey research, which adopted random sampling of clients from six estates in the State. The questionnaire was used as an instrument for the survey. The response rate was 81.3%. The dataset is made available in tables and charts of frequencies and means. The data are of interest to researchers in the professional service organisation, management and those in the decision sciences. The data could also be of interest to practitioners who may further analyse the data to develop business strategies to satisfy their clients.

Project description:This dataset covers an investigation into awareness and adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) in town planning firms in Lagos state, Nigeria. A survey of thirty (30) town planning firms in Lagos state, Nigeria was conducted. The survey was carried out between January to March 2017 by the use of questionnaires. The dataset contains responses on the factors that influence ICT usage, barriers and constraints of ICT usage. The five (5) point Likert scale was used for quantitative data analysis. The data can help identify the level of ICT usage, identify areas of concern and solutions can be proffered based on the results of the analysis.

Project description:This data article describes a dataset of 208 cases representing assessments of entrepreneurial orientation and organizational culture variables obtained from a web-based survey addressing owners and/or CEOs of German family firms. It includes data on five dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation (innovativeness, proactiveness, risk taking, autonomy, competitive aggressiveness), three dimensions of long-term orientation (futurity, perseverance, continuity), six dimensions of stewardship climate (organizational identification, collectivist orientation, power distance, involvement orientation, use of personal power, intrinsic motivation), three dimensions of learning orientation (commitment to learning, shared vision, open-mindedness), willingness to change, error management culture, and family commitment culture. Additionally, firm-level attributes (e.g., industry, age, size) and top management-level characteristics (e.g., generational involvement, involvement of the founder) are included.

Prospective evaluation of cases of discharge against medical advice in Abuja, Nigeria.

Project description:Discharge against medical advice (DAMA) is a global clinical phenomenon contributing significantly to adverse patients' outcome. Literatures abound on self-discharges in specific medical subpopulations. However, multidisciplinary studies on this subject in our region are few.To prospectively evaluate cases of DAMA in a wholesale multidisciplinary perspective at Federal Staff Medical Centre, Abuja, and suggest strategies to reduce it.All consecutive patients who DAMA from our medical centre between June 2013 and May 2014 were included in the study. Data harvested from the standard proforma were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 19.0.We recorded an overall DAMA rate of 2.1%. The majority of the patients were paediatric cases (n = 63, 44.6%) while closed long bone fractures represented the leading diagnosis (n = 35, 24.8%). The most commonly cited reasons for leaving the hospital were financial constraints (n = 46, 32.6%) and seeking alternative therapy (n = 25, 17.7%).The DAMA rate in our study is comparable to some urban hospitals elsewhere. However, the leading reasons for this phenomenon are unacceptable in the current medical best practice. Thus, strengthening the Health Insurance Scheme, strict control of traditional medical practices, and focused health education are recommended strategies to reduce DAMA.

Project description:In today's business environment, organizations must continually and constantly reinvent themselves to stay relevant because they conduct operations in workplaces that are characterized by steady competition and erratic change. Most studies show that organizational improvement cannot occur without strategic changes directed to yield a difference in performance. Thus, improving performance requires the consideration of change-related policies and individuals' dispositions relevant to change. Strategic change as perceived by many authors requires qualitative changes and not simple continuous and usual changes. Strategic change must be aligned to the mission, and purpose of an organization. Employees' attitudes towards change strongly relates to their attitudes about their employer and changes at their organization because organizations continually commence new programs of organizational change, these ongoing and seemingly endless efforts put a lot of burden not only on organizations but also on individuals. Researchers highlight the challenges to strategic change as; poor organizational management and culture, increased technology installation, organizational structure, strong competition and employee issues. Attitudes toward strategic change are the feelings employees have toward different internal policies of the organization. Many investigations suggest that it is reasonable to expect employees to react to strategic change efforts since the process of change involves going from the known to the unknown. Consequently, it can be a very unpleasant experience for employees thus this article presents data in this regard.
