Survey data on supply chain improvement and operational competency of oil and gas firms in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT: The firm?s suppliers are in most social responsibility literature considered a branch of the firm?s stakeholders that may not necessarily benefit directly from the firm?s social responsibility practices. However recent studies on CSR from the developing country?s perspective has highlighted the importance that needs to be placed on supply chain improvement. Thus, this article presents data on the effect of supply chain improvement as a construct of corporate social responsibility on operational competency. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design survey method. The study population consists of 1748 employees from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. A sample size of 350 employees were selected. Data was analysed using statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Regression analysis was employed as the statistical tool of analysis. The field data set is made widely accessible in this article.

Survey data on employees' perception of the impact of community development initiatives on the corporate image of oil and gas firms in Nigeria.

Project description:Several sources of today׳s pressure on managers in strategic decision-making are directly associated with social issues rather than traditional strategic management issues. It is believed that firms that invest in community development are more likely to operate in harmony in the society of their operations, as such reduce interference from their host community, thus leading to enhanced corporate image. Therefore, it becomes pertinent to present data to show the existence or otherwise of a relationship between community development initiatives and the firm׳s corporate image. This data is gotten from 336 respondents from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. Responses wee gathered from the employees' of the firms, as it is believed they have first hand information on the firm׳s corporate social responsibility policies. The data is purely descriptive and was gotten through quantitative methods, specifically through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire had two sections; section A contained background questions, while section B consisted of questions that were specific to community development initiatives and corporate image. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency of the questionnaire revealed a reliability coefficient of 0.732, thus revealing a high consistency level. The field data set is made widely accessible to enable critical investigation into the subject.

Assessment of methane emissions from the U.S. oil and gas supply chain.

Project description:Methane emissions from the U.S. oil and natural gas supply chain were estimated by using ground-based, facility-scale measurements and validated with aircraft observations in areas accounting for ~30% of U.S. gas production. When scaled up nationally, our facility-based estimate of 2015 supply chain emissions is 13 ± 2 teragrams per year, equivalent to 2.3% of gross U.S. gas production. This value is ~60% higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency inventory estimate, likely because existing inventory methods miss emissions released during abnormal operating conditions. Methane emissions of this magnitude, per unit of natural gas consumed, produce radiative forcing over a 20-year time horizon comparable to the CO2 from natural gas combustion. Substantial emission reductions are feasible through rapid detection of the root causes of high emissions and deployment of less failure-prone systems.

Coronavirus disease outbreak and supply chain disruption: Evidence from Taiwanese firms in China

Project description:Graphical abstract This study applies an empirical analysis to examine whether supply chain disruption is caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that was first reported in Wuhan, China, on December 31, 2019. The study’s findings indicate a link between the COVID-19 outbreak and the disruption of logistics and supply chains along with negative cumulative abnormal returns within Taiwanese firms manufacturing products in China and marketing them globally. This is the first study to examine the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the disruption of the supply chain and its effect on the stock market. The empirical results provide insights for business management in reconsidering their global supply chain strategies for the risk of disruption caused by similar epidemics occurs in the future.

Electricity supply quality and use among rural and peri-urban households and small firms in Nigeria.

Project description:We present a household and enterprise energy survey dataset collected within the framework of the PeopleSuN project in Nigeria in 2021. Across three Nigerian geopolitical zones, a total of 3,599 households and 1,122 small and medium-sized enterprises were surveyed. The sample is designed to be representative of rural and peri-urban grid-electrified regions of each zone. Our surveys collect data on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, energy access and supply quality, electrical appliance ownership and usage time, cooking solutions, energy related capabilities, and supply preferences. We encourage academic use of the data presented and suggest three avenues of further research: (1) modelling appliance ownership likelihoods, electricity consumption levels and energy service needs in un-electrified regions; (2) identifying supply-side and demand-side solutions to address high usage of diesel generators; (3) exploring broader issues of multi-dimensional energy access, access to decent living standards and climate vulnerability.

The effect of collaboration and IT competency on reverse logistics competency - Evidence from Brazilian supply chain executives.

Project description:Business models have being designed, worldwide, to create sustainability competencies and in particular to incorporate reverse logistics, but Brazilian executives have not yet fully adhered to Law 12,305 on solid waste and reverse logistics. What would be the Brazilian executives' perception about reverse logistics competency and the support provided by a collaborative and IT competency? The objective of the paper is to investigate the effects of collaboration and IT competency in developing reverse logistics competency, as a strategy, and its consequences in economic and environmental performance. A survey was performed with 320 Brazilian supply chain executives and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The models demonstrated that collaboration has a direct positive influence on the development of reverse logistics competency, by executives' point of view. The moderation effect between collaboration and IT competency for reverse logistics was not confirmed, since it was adopted a strategic view of reverse logistics. Therefore, despite there was not a moderation effect, IT presented a lower direct effect on reverse logistics competency. Results reinforce that organizations that develop reverse logistics competency tend to improve their economic and environmental performances.

Project description:This data article describes the dataset on the digital technologies and applications used by architectural firms in the delivery of building projects. The data set was sourced through a questionnaire survey of 75 registered architectural firms in Abuja, Nigeria. The survey was conducted between December 2017 and January 2018 in the study area. The data, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics, contain the characteristics of architectural firms in Abuja that participated in the survey, the different stand-alone and integrated data acquisition, creation, processing, storage and communication/exchange technologies, applications and tools and intelligent systems the firms use in building procurement process. In addition, the advantages and challenges associated with the use of digital technologies in the procurement of building projects by architectural firms in the study area are also presented in this dataset.

Project description:The main objective of this study was to present a data article that investigates the effect product features on firm's competitive advantage. Few studies have examined how the features of a product could help in driving the competitive advantage of a firm. Descriptive research method was used. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 22) was engaged for analysis of one hundred and fifty (150) valid questionnaire which were completed by small business owners registered under small and medium scale enterprises development of Nigeria (SMEDAN). Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were employed; reliability and validity procedures were also confirmed. The field data set is made publicly available to enable critical or extended analysis.

The improvement of block chain technology simulation in supply chain management (case study: pesticide company).

Project description:This research was conducted on industrial agriculture in Indonesia. Risk analysis was carried out based on previous research. One source of risk was obtained, namely raw materials that did not meet specifications, which was then proposed to be mitigated by evaluating supplier performance. This activity involves a lot of data, requiring efficient and effective data storage and access. The level in the simulation layout includes analysing system needs, using problem diagrams, compiling activity diagrams, deciding subprocesses, and filtering information. The analysis is carried out by comparing the use of supply chains with Blockchain and without Blockchain, which is then obtained to determine whether there is an increase. A sequentially stored data scenario describes a situation when the transaction process is in progress and is stored sequentially according to the process that occurs. Storing data in groups explains a problem when a transaction has been completed and stored in groups with similar data, making it easier to track specific data. In this regard, a simulation will be carried out using a website, namely a blockchain demo. The design stage starts with identifying system requirements, creating use case diagrams, compiling activity diagrams, determining subprocesses, and selecting information. The simulation results obtained will be analysed to determine the feasibility of Blockchain as a means of supporting risk mitigation related to data using aspects, including security, trust, traceability, sustainability, and costs.
