Prostaglandins (PGs) are a family of lipid compounds that are derived from arachidonic acid via the cyclooxygenase pathway, and consist of PGD<sub>2</sub>, PGI<sub>2</sub>, PGE<sub>2</sub>, PGF<sub>2</sub>, and thromboxane B<sub>2</sub>.
