Dataset on the effect of sodium sources on the morphology, crystallite size and carbon content of NaTi2(po4)3/c composite prepared by an in situ process.

ABSTRACT: The data presented in this manuscript showed the effects of the sodium sources on the morphology, crystallite size and carbon content of NaTi2(PO4)3/C composite obtained after heat treatment under N2 atmosphere of the as-spraydried powders. The morphology, crystalline size and carbon content of three products with different sodium sources were investigated.The data are related to “Synthesis of NaTi2(PO4)3@C microspheres by an in situ process and their electrochemical properties” (Mao et al.,2020).

Morphology-Dependent Optoelectronic Properties of Pentacene Nanoribbon and Nanosheet Crystallite.

Project description:Organic, single crystals have emerged as unique optoelectrical materials due to their highly ordered structure and low defects. In this work, pentacene nanoribbons and nanosheets were selectively fabricated by controlling their growth temperature. The results show that their photoluminescence (PL) activity and electrical properties were strongly dependent on their geometrical morphology and molecular stacking mode such as the degree of π-orbital overlap and intermolecular interaction. The pentacene nanoribbon crystal exhibited a higher PL intensity compared with the nanosheet configuration; conversely, its electrical conductivity was poor. The low-temperature PL measurement indicated that there are stronger π-π stacking interactions in the nanosheet crystal than in the nanoribbon crystal, leading to exciton quenching and higher conductivity. Our study demonstrated that a unique optoelectronic property of organic crystals can be obtained by controlling the crystal's morphology, which offers potential guidance for the future design and development of organic crystal optoelectronics.

Porous Polystyrene Monoliths Prepared from in Situ Simultaneous Interpenetrating Polymer Networks: Modulation of Morphology by Polymerization Kinetics.

Project description:Semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) were prepared by in situ simultaneous orthogonal polymerizations, where the linear poly(?-caprolactone) (PCL) was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of ?-caprolactone and the poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) (PS) network was formed by free-radical polymerization of styrene/divinylbenzene. Semi-IPNs were used as the precursors for the preparation of porous PS monoliths. To this end, the PCL domains were selectively removed by hydrolysis under basic conditions. By changing the amount of organocatalyst used for the ring-opening polymerization of ?-caprolactone, the relative polymerization kinetics of both monomers was varied, which has a pronounced effect on the morphology of thus-obtained PS frameworks.

Electrical and Structural Properties of Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3-Based Ceramics Prepared with the Addition of Li4SiO4.

Project description:The currently studied materials considered as potential candidates to be solid electrolytes for Li-ion batteries usually suffer from low total ionic conductivity. One of them, the NASICON-type ceramic of the chemical formula Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3, seems to be an appropriate material for the modification of its electrical properties due to its high bulk ionic conductivity of the order of 10-3 S∙cm-1. For this purpose, we propose an approach concerning modifying the grain boundary composition towards the higher conducting one. To achieve this goal, Li4SiO4 was selected and added to the LATP base matrix to support Li+ diffusion between the grains. The properties of the Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3-xLi4SiO4 (0.02 ≤ x ≤ 0.1) system were studied by means of high-temperature X-ray diffractometry (HTXRD); 6Li, 27Al, 29Si, and 31P magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MAS NMR); thermogravimetry (TG); scanning electron microscopy (SEM); and impedance spectroscopy (IS) techniques. Referring to the experimental results, the Li4SiO4 additive material leads to the improvement of the electrical properties and the value of the total ionic conductivity exceeds 10-4 S∙cm-1 in most studied cases. The factors affecting the enhancement of the total ionic conductivity are discussed. The highest value of σtot = 1.4 × 10-4 S∙cm-1 has been obtained for LATP-0.1LSO material sintered at 1000 °C for 6 h.

Iron-Based Mixed Phosphate Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 Thin Films for Sodium-Ion Microbatteries.

Project description:Iron-based polyanionic materials can be exploited to realize low cost, durable, and safe cathodes for both bulk and thin film sodium-ion batteries. Herein, we report pulsed laser deposited mixed phosphate Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 as a positive electrode for thin film sodium-ion microbatteries. The bulk material and thin films of Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 are employed by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) and the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique, respectively. Phase purity and the nature of the crystallinity of the thin films were confirmed by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Identification of surface roughness and morphology was obtained from atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Emerging electrochemical properties were observed from charge-discharge profiles of the thin films, which are well comparable to bulk material properties. The Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 thin film electrodes delivered a highly reversible Na+ storage capacity of ?120 mAh g-1 with an excellent stability of over 500 cycles. Electrochemical analysis results revealed that the thickness of the film affects the storage capacity.

Multiwalled carbon nanotube network connected Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 composites to improve sodium storage performance.

Project description:The research on sodium-ion batteries (SIDs) has aroused intensive attention. In this work, the Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 (MTP) composite material with NASICON structure has been studied as an anode material in SIDs. The sol-gel method is used to synthesize the Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 with a conductive network that can be constructed by using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and phenolic resin as the amorphous source of carbon coating. The CNT network is used not only to improve the outcome of electrolyte penetration and reduce the internal resistance to diffusion but also to create a fast path for electron transport, thereby elevating the level of electronic conductivity. The phenolic resin is generated on the surface of MTP which extends its cycle life. The carbon-coated Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 with 0.10 g CNTs (MTP-CNT10) displays optimal performance as an anode material in SIDs, and shows a discharge capacity of 298.8 mA h g-1, 258.3 mA h g-1 and 254.8 mA h g-1 at 0.1C, 0.5C and 1C, respectively. Besides, the capacity retention rate reaches 92% after 300 cycles at 10C. This study contributes an effective solution to improving the electrochemical performance of electrode materials through the introduction of carbon coating and highly conductive materials.

Affordable Magnetic Hydrogels Prepared from Biocompatible and Biodegradable Sources.

Project description:Magnetic hydrogels composed of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/water-soluble tricarboxy cellulose (CO)/magnetic fluids (MFs) have been prepared by a freeze-thaw cycle technique. The system designed here combines the renewability and biocompatibility aspects of PVA and CO, as well as the magnetic properties of MFs, thereby offering special properties to the final product with potential applications in medicine. In the first step, the water-soluble CO is synthesized using a one-shot oxidation procedure and then the aqueous solutions of CO are mixed with PVA solutions and magnetic fluids in the absence of any additional cross-linking agent. The magnetic hydrogels were thoroughly investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetometry (VSM), and thermogravimetric analysis. The morphological results show an excellent distribution of magnetic particles and CO inside the PVA matrix. The VSM results show that the magnetic hydrogels possess superparamagnetic properties.
