catena-Poly[[(2,2'-bi-pyridine-κ² N,N')manganese(II)]-di-μ-bromido].

ABSTRACT: In the polymeric title complex, [MnBr₂(C₁₀H₈N₂)] _n , the Mn^II ion, situated on a twofold axis of symmetry, is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry defined by two N atoms from the chelating 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand and four bridging Br^- anions. The crystal reveals a one-dimensional Br-bridged chain along the c-axis direction with a zigzag topology. In the crystals, contacts between chains include π-π inter-actions between pyridyl rings [inter-centroid separation = 4.082 (1) Å].

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(14)H(8)O(6)S)(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by four O atoms from three 4,4'-sulfonyl-dibenzoate (sdba) ligands and two N atoms from one 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The manganese atoms are alternately bridged either by two sdba ligands, with an Mn⋯Mn separation of 12.284 (1) Å, or by two carboxyl-ate groups from two sdba ligands, with an Mn⋯Mn separation of 4.064 (1) Å, thus producing polymeric chains propagated in [101]. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance of 3.730 (3) Å between the aromatic rings of neighbouring polymeric chains] further stabilize the crystal packing.

The bridging function of the Br atoms leads to a chain structure along [100]. Inter-chain C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds and π-π contacts between the thia-zole rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.810 (5) and 3.679 (5) Å] are observed.

Project description:Crystals of the title compound, {(C(6)H(5)C(2)H(4)NH(3))(2)[PbBr(4)]}(n), were grown at room temperature from a solution in N,N-dimethyl-formamide (DMF) using nitro-methane as the poor solvent. This perovskite-type organic-inorganic hybrid compound consists of well ordered sheets of corner-sharing disordered PbBr(6) octa-hedra separated by bilayers of phenethyl-ammonium cations. The octa-hedra are rotated and tilted due to N-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds with the ammonium groups, generating a superstructure in the unit cell similar to that of the tetra-chloridoplumbate (C(6)H(5)C(2)H(4)NH(3))(2)[PbCl(4)].
