ABSTRACT: The title compound, NH(4)YbP(2)O(7), crystallizes in the KAlP(2)O(7) structure type and consists of distorted YbO(6) octa-hedra and bent P(2)O(7) (4-) diphosphate units forming together a three-dimensional network. There are channels in the structure running along the c axis, where the NH(4) (+) cations are located. They are connected via N-H?O hydrogen bonds to the terminal O atoms of the diphosphate anions.

Project description:In the title compound, [KYb(C(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(4)](n), the Yb(III) ion lies on a site of [Formula: see text] symmetry in a dodeca-hedral environment defined by eight O atoms from four oxalate ligands. The K atom lies on a different [Formula: see text] axis and is coordinated by four O atoms from four oxalate ligands and four water O atoms. The oxalate ligand has an inversion center at the mid-point of the C-C bond. The metal ions are linked by the oxalate ligands into a three-dimensional framework. O-H?O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure.

Bis(4-meth-oxy-benzyl-ammonium) dihydrogen diphosphate.

Project description:In the title compound, 2C(8)H(12)NO(+)·H(2)P(2)O(7) (2-), the linked PO(4) groups of the diphosphate anion are almost eclipsed and the P-O-P angle is 134.45?(7)°. In the crystal, infinite ribbons of H(2)P(2)O(7) (2-) anions propagate in [100], being linked by strong O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The 4-meth-oxy-benzyl-ammonium cations bond to the diphosphate chains by N-H?O and C-H?O links, and are themselves linked by C-H?? inter-actions.

Ammonium diphosphitoindate(III).

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, NH4[In(HPO3)2], is built up from In(III) cations (site symmetry 3m.) adopting an octa-hedral environment and two different phosphite anions (each with site symmetry 3m.) exhibiting a triangular-pyramidal geometry. Each InO6 octa-hedron shares its six apices with hydrogen phosphite groups. Reciprocally, each HPO3 group shares all its O atoms with three different metal cations, leading to [In(HPO3)2](-) layers which propagate in the ab plane. The ammonium cation likewise has site symmetry 3m.. In the structure, the cations are located between the [In(HPO3)2](-) layers of the host framework. The sheets are held together by hydrogen bonds formed between the NH4 (+) cations and the O atoms of the framework.

Project description:Two ytterbium(III) complexes comprising alkynylamidinate ligands, namely bis-(?5-cyclo-penta-dien-yl)(3-cyclo-propyl-N,N'-diiso-propyl-propynamidinato-?2N,N')ytterbium(III), [Yb(C5H5)2(C12H19N2)] or Cp2Yb[( i Pr2N)2C-C?C-c-C3H5] (1) and tris-(3-phenyl-N,N'-di-cyclo-hexyl-propynamidinato-?2N,N')ytterbium(III), [Yb(C21H27N2)3] or Yb[(CyN)2C-C?C-Ph]3 (Cy = cyclo-hex-yl) (2) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Both complexes are monomers; for complex 2, the contribution to the scattering from highly disordered toluene solvent molecules in these voids was removed with the SQUEEZE routine [Spek (2015). Crystal structure of hexa-aqua-dichlorido-ytterbium(III) chloride.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [YbCl2(H2O)6]Cl, was determined at 110?K. Samples were obtained from evaporated aceto-nitrile solutions containing the title compound, which consists of a [YbCl2(H2O)6](+) cation and a Cl(-) anion. The cations in the title compound sit on a twofold axis and form O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds with the nearby Cl(-) anion. The coordination geometry around the metal centre forms a distorted square anti-prism. The ytterbium complex is isotypic with the europium complex [Tambrornino et al. (2014 ?). Acta Cryst. Highly near-IR emissive ytterbium(iii) complexes with unprecedented quantum yields.

Project description:The design of highly near-infrared (NIR) emissive lanthanide (Ln) complexes is challenging, owing to the lack of molecular systems with a high sensitization efficiency and the difficulty of achieving a large intrinsic quantum yield. Previous studies have reported success in optimizing individual factors and achieving high overall quantum yields, with the best yield being 12% for Yb(iii). Herein we report a series of highly NIR emissive Yb complexes, in which the Yb is sandwiched between an octafluorinated porphyrinate antenna ligand and a deuterated Kläui ligand, which allowed optimization of two factors in the same system, and one of the complexes had an unprecedented quantum yield of 63% (estimated uncertainty 15%) in CD2Cl2 with a long lifetime (?obs) of 714 ?s. Systematic analysis of the structure-photophysical properties relationship suggested that porphyrinates are effective antenna ligands with a sensitization efficiency up to ca. 100% and that replacement of the high-energy C-H oscillators in porphyrinate and Kläui ligands significantly improves the intrinsic quantum yield up to 75% (?obs/?rad), both of which contribute to enhancing the NIR emission intensity of Yb(iii) up to 25-fold. Besides the high luminescence efficiency, these Yb complexes have other attractive features such as excitation in the visible range and large extinction coefficients which make these Yb(iii) complexes outstanding optical materials in the NIR region.

Cerium(III), europium(III), and ytterbium(III) complexes with alcohol donor groups as chemical exchange saturation transfer agents for MRI.

Project description:Lanthanide(III) complexes of macrocycles 1,4,7,10-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (THED) and (1S,4S,7S,10S)-1,4,7,10-tetrakis(2-hydroxypropyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (S-THP) were studied as chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications. The four hyperfine-shifted alcohol protons of these Ln(III) complexes gave rise to a single (1)H resonance in wet d(3)-acetonitrile that was separated from the bulk water resonance (Delta omega) by 8 ppm (Ce), 2 ppm (Nd), 7 ppm (Eu), or 17 ppm (Yb). A CEST peak corresponding to the alcohol protons was observed for all Ln(THED)(3+) or Ln(S-THP)(3+) complexes except Nd(III) at low water concentrations (<1%). In 100% aqueous buffered solutions, the CEST hydroxyl peak is observed for the Eu(III), Ce(III), and Yb(III) complexes over a range of pH values. The optimal pH range for the CEST effect of each complex is related to the pK(a) of the hydroxyl/water ligands of the complex. Optimum pH values for the CEST effect from alcohol proton exchange are pH = 6.0 for Ce(S-THP)(3+), pH = 4.5 for Eu(THED)(3+), and pH = 3.0 for Yb(S-THP)(3+).

Highly luminescent, biocompatible ytterbium(iii) complexes as near-infrared fluorophores for living cell imaging.

Project description:Herein, we report the design and synthesis of biocompatible Yb3+ complexes for near-infrared (NIR) living cell imaging. Upon excitation at either the visible (Soret band) or red region (Q band), these ?-fluorinated Yb3+ complexes display high NIR luminescence (quantum yields up to 23% and 13% in dimethyl sulfoxide and water, respectively) and have higher stabilities and prolonged decay lifetimes (up to 249 ?s) compared to the ?-non-fluorinated counterparts. This renders the ?-fluorinated Yb3+ complexes as a new class of biological optical probes in both steady-state imaging and time-resolved fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). NIR confocal fluorescence images showed strong and specific intracellular Yb3+ luminescence signals when the biocompatible Yb3+ complexes were uptaken into the living cells. Importantly, FLIM measurements showed an intracellular lifetime distribution between 100 and 200 ?s, allowing an effective discrimination from cell autofluorescence, and afforded high signal-to-noise ratios as firstly demonstrated in the NIR region. These results demonstrated the prospects of NIR lanthanide complexes as biological probes for NIR steady-state fluorescence and time-resolved fluorescence lifetime imaging.
