ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(14)H(11)NO(3), was isolated from the roots of Clausena wallichii. The carbazole ring system is approx-imately planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.039?Å) and the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 4.63?(7)°. An intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a zigzag network extending parallel to the ac plane by O-H?N and N-H?O hydrogen bonds.
