Project description:The title compound, C(22)H(14)F(3)N(3), is a versatile tridentate N-donor ligand consisting of a terpyridyl (terpy) molecule substituted in the 4'-position by a phenyl group, itself substituted in an ortho-position by a bulky trifluoro-methyl group. The phenyl ring is twisted as a result of steric inter-actions involving the bulky trifluoro-methyl substituent. This is reflected in the dihedral angle between the mean plane through the C atoms of the phenyl ring and the terpyridyl unit being 69.2?(1)°. The crystal structure contains no short van der Waals contacts. However, the terpy units stack in a head-to-tail orientation perpendicular to the c axis. The structure is is loosely stabilized by ?-? inter-actions between the terminal pyridine rings of adjacent mol-ecules along the stack. The perpendicular distance between the mean planes through the terpy moieties of adjacent mol-ecules is 3.4?(1)?Å.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(NO(3))(C(21)H(14)ClN(3))(H(2)O)]NO(3)·[Cu(NO(3))(2)(C(21)H(14)ClN(3))]·H(2)O, con-sists of two crystallographically independent Cu(II) complexes, in which each copper cation is penta-coordinated by three N atoms of the chelating ligand and two O atoms of nitrate anions or water mol-ecules. One of the coordinated nitrate anions is disordered over two set of sites in a 0.85:0.15 ratio.

Project description:The title compound, C25H24N3O3P, was obtained by catalytic phospho-nation of 4'-(4-bromphen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine. The terpyridine moiety is nearly planar, the dihedral angles between the central and the outer rings being 4.06?(9) and 5.39?(9)°. The N atoms in the two pyridine rings are oriented nearly anti-periplanar to that of the central ring. The benzene ring is rotated out of the plane of the central ring of the terpyridine unit by 34.65?(6)°.

Project description:The Pd(II) atom in the complex cation of the title compound, [PdCl(C(21)H(16)N(4))]Cl, is coordinated by three N atoms derived from the terpyridine ligand and a chloride ion, which define a distorted PdClN(3) square-planar coordination geometry. In the crystal, the presence of N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds involving the amino H atom and chloride anions link two cations and two anions into a four-ion aggregate via centrosymmetric eight-membered [?H-N-H?Cl](2) synthons. Layers of cations are inter-spersed with the chloride anions with stabilization provided by C-H?Cl inter-actions involving both Cl atoms, as well as ?-? inter-actions [the closest inter-action of 3.489?(6)?Å occurs between a chelate ring and a pyridyl residue].

Project description:The title complex, [Co(C(22)H(14)N(4))(2)]Cl(2), has been synthesized by a solvothermal reaction of the 4'-(4-cyano-phen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligand with CoCl(2)·6H(2)O. The cobalt(II) ion is six-coordinated by two tridentate ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The benzene rings form dihedral angles of 30.02?(7) and 30.26?(7)° with the mean planes of the terpyridine ring systems. The chloride anions are statistically disordered over two positions with refined site occupancies of 0.601?(2) and 0.399?(2).

The centrosymmetric complex cation involves intra-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.862?(4)?Å] between the central pyridine and benzene rings. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of a supra-molecular network.

Project description:The terpyridine group of the title compound, C31H27N4O, assumes an all-transoid conformation and is essentially planar with the dihedral angles between the mean planes of the central pyridine and the two outer rings amounting to 3.87 (5) and 1.98 (5)°. The pyrroline-N-oxyl group commonly seen in such nitroxyls is found in the title structure and the mean plane of the pyrroline ring subtends a dihedral angle of 88.44 (7)° to the mean plane of the central pyridine ring. The intra-molecular separation between the nitrogen atom of the central pyridine unit of the terpyridine group and the nitroxyl group is 14.120 (2) Å. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are arranged in layers stacked along [001]. Slipped face-to-face π-π inter-actions between the pyridine rings are observed along this direction with the shortest centroid-centroid distances amounting to 3.700 (1) and 3.781 (1) Å. Furthermore, edge-on C-H⋯π inter-actions between the phenyl-ene rings of neighbouring mol-ecules are observed along this direction. A two-dimensional C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded network is formed within the (010) plane. The shortest O⋯O separation between neighbouring mol-ecules is 5.412 (3) Å.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(CH(3)COO)(2)(C(28)H(21)N(3)O)], the Zn(II) ion is in a trigonal-bipyramidal ZnN(3)O(2) coordination with a tridentate N-chelating 4'-[4-(benz-yloxy)phen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligand in the equatorial position and two acetate anions in the axial positions. The three pyridine rings are approximately coplanar, with a maximum deviation of 0.03?Å from the mean plane. The helical pitch is the length of the c axis.
