ABSTRACT: The title compound pteleifolosin C, C(21)H(20)O(7), was isolated from the petroleum ether-soluble fraction of an indigenous Chinese tree Melicope pteleifolia (Rutaceae). The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 2.7?(2)°. Intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds occur. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular O-H-O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound (trivial name ?-mangostin), C(24)H(26)O(6), isolated from Cratoxylum glaucum, is characterized by a xanthone skeleton of three fused six-membered rings and two 3-methyl-but-2-enyl side chains. The three rings in the structure are nearly coplanar, with an r.m.s. deviation for the tricyclic ring system of 0.0014?Å. The two 3-methyl-but-2-enyl side chains are in (+)-synclinal and (-)-anti-clinal conformations. Intra-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O inter-actions occur. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O, C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions.

Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers, which are further linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions into ribbons propagated in [2[Formula: see text]0]. Finally, π-π inter-actions between the benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.583 (13) Å] stabilize the crystal packing.

Project description:The title compound (systematic name5,6-dihy-droxy-7,8-dimeth-oxy-2-phenyl-chromen-4-one), C17H14O6, is a flavone that was isolated from the petroleum ether-soluble fraction of the rare traditional Chinese medicinal herb Saussurea involucrata. The flavone mol-ecule is almost planar, with a dihedral angle between the planes of the benzo-pyran-4-one group and the attached phenyl group of 1.89?(6)°. The 5-hy-droxy group forms a strong intra-molecular hydrogen bond with the carbonyl group, resulting in a six-membered hydrogen-bonded ring. The 6-hy-droxy group also forms an intra-molecular O-H?O contact. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [3.37?(2)-3.39?(2)?Å], which build up a three-dimensional network.
