N-(2-Chloro-4-nitro-phen-yl)maleamic acid monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(10)H(7)ClN(2)O(5)·H(2)O, crystallizes with a half-mol-ecule each of N-(2-chloro-4-nitro-phen-yl)maleamic acid (located on a mirror plane) and water (located on a twofold rotation axis) in the asymmetric unit. The main mol-ecule is planar by symmetry and its conformation is stabilized by an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(10)H(7)ClN(2)O(5), the acyclic C=C double bond is cis configured. The C=O and O-H bonds of the acid group are in a relatively rare anti position to each other, due to the donation of intramolecular hydrogen bond to the amide by the carboxyl group. The nitro group is significantly twisted [dihedral angle = 66.9 (3)°] out of the plane of the remaining atoms, which are almost coplanar (r.m.s. deviation for non-H atoms except the nitro group = 0.202 Å). In the crystal, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into zigzag chains running along the b axis.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers via pairs of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These dimers are further linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into double chains running along the a axis.

In the crystal, mol-ecules make cyclic inter-molecular associations through two urea-nitro N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a chain structure [give chain direction] in which there are also weak inter-molecular C-H?Cl inter-actions. Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C8H8N4O5·H2O, the organic and lattice water mol-ecules are linked together via N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds. A C-H?O inter-action is also observed between the organic mol-ecules. These hydrogen bonds and inter-actions lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network. An intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond also occurs.
