Project description:The asymetric unit of the title compound, [Fe(C5H5)(C17H13N2)], contains two independent mol-ecules whose conformations differ, especially in the 4-{(pyridin-4-yl)methyl-idene]amino}-phenyl unit where one is flipped by almost 180°. The cyclo-penta-dienyl rings of the ferrocene unit also exhibit different staggered conformations: in one mol-ecule the conformation is staggered by 9.43?(2)° and in the other by 24.46?(1)° from an ideal eclipsed geometry. The plane of the benzene ring is tilted away from the ferrocene group in both mol-ecules, with dihedral angles of 6.97?(1) and 10.30?(2)°. The benzene ring is also slightly twisted from the plane of the pyridine ring, with dihedral angles of 5.98?(2) and 6.51?(2)° in the two mol-ecules.

In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked by O-H?N hydrogen bonds, generating C(13) head-to-tail chains extending along the base vector [103]. R(2) (2)(26) ring motifs are formed due to the C-H?·O inter-actions that link neighbouring chains. There also exist ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation = 3.6925?(12)?Å] between the symmetry-related pyridine rings of one of the independent mol-ecules.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title 1:2 adduct, C(12)H(10)N(4)·2C(8)H(8)O(2), comprises a single mol-ecule of 2-phenyl-acetic acid and half a mol-ecule of 3-pyridine-aldazine; the latter is completed by crystallographic inversion symmetry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected into a three-component aggregate via O-H?N hydrogen bonds. As the carboxyl group lies above the plane through the benzene ring to which it is attached [C-C-C-C = 62.24?(17)°] and the 4-pyridine-aldazine mol-ecule is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation of the 16 non-H atoms = 0.027?Å), the overall shape of the aggregate is that of a flattened extended chair. Layers of these aggregates are connected by C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions and stack parallel to (220).

In the acid, the carb-oxy-lic acid group is approximately normal to [dihedral angle = 72.9?(2)°] but twisted with respect to the plane through the benzene ring [C-C-C-O torsion angle = 25.4?(5)°]. The base is roughly planar [dihedral angle between rings = 12.66?(15)°; r.m.s. deviation of the 16 non-H atoms = 0.107?Å] and the conformations about both imine bonds are E. The dimeric aggregates are linked into a supra-molecular layer in the ab plane by C-H?O inter-actions.

The apical Cl atoms of adjacent complex units are hydrogen-bond acceptors to two water mol-ecules, the inter-action generating a centrosymmetric dimer through a cyclic R(4) (2)(8) association.
