Crystal structure of tri-phenyl(vinyl)-phospho-nium tetra-phenyl-borate.

ABSTRACT: The title ionic salt, C21H20P(+)·C24H20B(-), crystallized with two independent vinyl-tri-phenyl-phospho-nium cations and two independent tetra-phenyl-borate anions per asymmetric unit. These four independent moieties contain nearly perfect tetra-hedral symmetry about their respective central C atoms. In the crystal, there are no ?-stacking or other inter-molecular inter-actions present.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, C(44)H(38)P(2) (2+)2BF(4) (-), consists of discrete dications inter-laced with the BF(4) (-) counter-ions. In each cation, both phospho-nium groups lie on the same side of the plane of the central benzene ring. The tetra-fluoro-borate anions are involved in intensive thermal motion, thus some B-F bond lengths [range 1.329?(6) to 1.391?(6)?Å] deviate significantly from their standard values.

Project description:The title compound, Ph3(PhCH2)P(+)·Cl(-)·H2O, was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted synthesis of a silver di-thio-carbamate complex using benzyl-tri-phenyl-phospho-nium as the counter-ion. The asymmetric unit consists of a phospho-nium cation and a chloride anion, and a water mol-ecule of crystallization. In the crystal, the chloride ion is linked to the water mol-ecule by an O-H?Cl hydrogen bond. The three units are further linked via C-H?Cl and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H? ? inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional structure.

Acetonyltri-phenyl-phospho-nium 2,3,5-tri-phenyl-tetra-zolium tetra-chlorido-cuprate(II).

Project description:The title compound, (C21H20OP)(C19H15N4)[CuCl4], was obtained by reacting CuCl2·2H2O with a mixture of one equivalent of acetonyltri-phenyl-phospho-nium chloride and one equivalent of 2,3,5-tri-phenyl-tetra-zolium chloride in aceto-nitrile. In the structure, the Cu centre in the dianion is bonded to four chloride ligands and adopts a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The phospho-nium cation likewise adopts the expected tetra-hedral geometry. The tetra-zolium ring forms dihedral angles of 77.68 (10), 26.85 (11) and 66.48 (10)° with the planes of the benzene rings of the substituent groups. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving both cations and the anion give rise to a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

The asymmetric unit contains a single cation and anion, which are linked in the crystal by inter-molecular N-H?? and inversion-related R(2) (2)(14) C-H?O inter-actions, which combine to form chains of cations and anions along the c axis.

Project description:In the cation of the title salt, C6H14NO(+)·C24H20B(-), the C-N bond lengths are 1.297 (2), 1.464 (2) and 1.468 (2) Å, indicating double- and single-bond character, respectively. The C-O bond length of 1.309 (2) Å shows double-bond character, pointing towards charge delocalization within the NCO plane of the iminium ion. In the crystal, C-H⋯π inter-actions between the iminium H atoms and the phenyl C atoms of the anion are present. The phenyl rings form aromatic pockets, in which the iminium ions are embedded.

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, C22H22O2P(+)·PF6 (-), the side chain of the cation adopts an anti-gauche conformation [P-C-C-C and C-C-C-C torsion angles = -179.11?(10) and -77.18?(16)°, respectively]. In the crystal, the cations are linked into carb-oxy-lic acid inversion dimers by pairs of O-H?O hydrogen bonds. Weak C-H?F and C-H?(F,F) hydrogen bonds connect the components into a three-dimensional network, but there are no aromatic ?-? stacking inter-actions.

Tetra-phenyl-phospho-nium hydrogen oxalate.

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(20)P(+)·C(2)HO(4) (-), two symmetry-independent ion pairs are present. The cations aggregate into puckered sheets via zigzag infinite chains of sixfold phenyl embraces and parallel fourfold phenyl embraces, while the anions form hydrogen-bonded chains between the sheets of cations. In the two independent oxalate anions, the angles between the normals to the two least-squares carboxyl-ate COO planes are unusually large, viz. 72.5?(1) and 82.1?(1)°.

Tetra-phenyl-phospho-nium iodide-1,3,5-tri-fluoro-2,4,6-tri-iodo-benzene-methanol (3/4/1).

Project description:The crystallization of a 1:1 molar solution of 1,3,5-tri-fluoro-2,4,6-di-iodo-benzene (TFTIB) and tetra-phenyl-phosponium iodide (TPPI) from methanol produced tetra-gonal needles of pure TPPI and tabular pseudo-hexa-gonal truncated bipyramids of the title compound, 3C24H20P(+)·3I(-)·4C6F3I3·CH4O or (TPPI)3(TFTIB)4·MeOH. The asymmetric unit is composed of six TPPI mol-ecules, eight TFTIB mol-ecules and two methanol mol-ecules, overall 16 constituents. The formation of the architecture is essentially guided by a number of C-I?I(-) halogen bonds (XB), whose lengths are in the range 3.276?(1)-3.625?(1)?Å. Layers of supra-molecular polyanions are formed parallel to (10-1) wherein iodide anions function as penta-, tetra- or bidentate XB acceptors. The structure is not far from being P21/n, but the centrosymmetry is lost due to a different conformation of a single couple of cations and the small asymmetry in the formed supra-molecular anion. One methanol mol-ecule is hydrogen bonded to an iodide anion, while the second is linked to the first one via an O-H?O contact. This second methanol mol-ecule is more loosely pinned in its position than the first and presents very high anisotropic displacement parameters and a seeming shortening of the C-O bond length. The crystal studied was refined as a perfect inversion twin.

Project description:The complex title salt, (C21H20OP)2[CoCl4], is the reaction product of CoCl2 with acetonyltri-phenyl-phospho-nium chloride in aceto-nitrile. In the anion, the Co(II) atom exhibits a typical tetra-hedral environment, with Co-Cl distances ranging from 2.2721?(6) to 2.2901?(6)?Å, and with Cl-Co-Cl angles ranging from 106.12?(2) to 112.24?(2)°. The two phospho-nium cations likewise show the expected tetra-hedral configuration, with P-C distances ranging from 1.785?(2) to 1.8059?(18)?Å and C-P-C angles ranging from 106.98?(8) to 112.85?(15)°. The mol-ecules inter-act in the lattice mainly through Coulombic and van der Waals forces because there is no particular polarity to the charges carried by the cations or anion. In the crystal, the cations and anions are arranged in sheets parallel to (001).

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(24)H(20)P)(2)[WS(4)], which was prepared under hydro-thermal conditions, contains tetra-phenyl-phospho-nium cations linked by supra-molecular inter-actions into chains running along the [110] and [10] directions. The [WS(4)](2-)anions, which lie on twofold axes, are located in the cavities created between the cation chains.
