Multiple lines of evidence suggest the RNA modification N<sup>6</sup> -methyladonsine (m<sup>6</sup> A), which is installed in the nucleus cotranscriptionally and, thereafter, serves as a reversible chemical imprint that influences several steps of mRNA metabolism.
