ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C(3)H(8)N(2)O(2))(3)](NO(3))(2), contains two independent cations, each built up around a fac-NiN(3)O(3) octa-hedron, and four nitrate anions. Numerous cation-to-anion N-H?O hydrogen bonds, some of which are bifurcated, help to establish the packing.

Project description:In the title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](NO(3))(2)·4H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is octa-hedrally coordinated by three bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, each forming a five-membered chelate ring. In the crystal, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds are present between the complex cations, nitrate anions and water mol-ecules. O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the uncoord-inated water mol-ecules lead to the formation of a four-membered ring water cluster, with a planar configuration. There were an additional five grossly disordered water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, which were removed by the subroutine SQUEEZE; these were were excluded in the calculation of the molecular weight, etc. ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings are also observed [centroid-centroid distances = 3.697?(2), 3.728?(2) and 3.761?(2)?Å].

The cation and anion are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. One of the two -SO(3) groups is disordered over two positions in a 1:1 ratio.

Project description:The reaction of nickel salts and 4,4'-bipyridine with 2,2'-bi-imidazole (H(2)biim) yielded the title complex, [Ni(C(6)H(6)N(4))(3)](NO(3))(2)·C(3)H(7)NO. The Ni(II) atom is chelated by three H(2)biim ligands in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The two nitrate anions and one dimethyl-formamide (DMF) mol-ecule are not coordinated. The compound has a three-dimensional structure, formed by extensive hydrogen bonding between [Ni(H(2)biim)(3)](2+) cations and nitrate anions, each nitrate anion forming hydrogen bonds with an R(1) (2)(4) motif. The DMF molecule is disordered over three sets of sites, with occupancy ratios of 0.341?(16):0.350?(17):0.309?(19).

In each complex dication, the Ni(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three en ligands forming a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, the ions and water mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional framework by a large number of N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide.

Project description:Crystals of NiUS3 were obtained from the reaction of the elements Ni, U, S, and of GeI2 in a CsCl flux at 1173?K. Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide, NiUS3, has ortho-rhom-bic (Pnma) symmetry and crystallizes in the GdFeO3 structure type. The compound has a perovskite ABQ 3-like structure, with U occupying the inter-stitial sites of a NiS6 framework. The U atoms are coordinated by eight S atoms in a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic arrangement. The Ni atoms are coordinated by six S atoms in a slightly distorted octa-hedral arrangement. The asymmetric unit comprises one U site (site symmetry .m.), one Ni site (-1), and two S sites (1 and .m.).

Synthesis, Structure, and Characterization of Tris(1-ethyl-4-isopropyl-imidazolyl-?N)phosphine Nickel(II) Complexes.

Project description:In this work we report the synthesis of five new nickel(II) complexes all coordinated to the tripodal ligand tris(1-ethyl-4- i Pr-imidazolyl)phosphine (TlEt4iPrIP). They are [Ni(T1Et4iPrIP)(CH3CN)2(OTf)](OTf) (1), [Ni(T1Et4iPrIP)(OTf)2] (2), [Ni(T1Et4iPrIP)(H2O)(OTf)](OTf) (3), [Ni(T1Et4iPrIP)Cl](OTf) (4), and [Ni(T1Et4iPrIP)Cl2] (5). The complexes serve as bioinorganic structural model complexes for histidine-coordinated nickel proteins. The X-ray structures have been determine for all complexes which feature coordination numbers 4-6. We investigated the spectroscopic interconversions for these compound in dichloromethane solution and demonstrate interconversion between 1-3 and conversion of 2 to 4. Complex 5 can be spectroscopically converted to the cation of 4 by dissolving it in dichloromethane. Fits of variable temperature magnetic susceptibility data yielded the following parameters: g = 1.944, D = -0.327 cm-1, E/D = 3.706 for 1; g = 2.280, D = -0.365 cm-1, E/D = 22.178 for 2; g = 2.000, D = -7.402 cm-1, E/D = -0.272 for 3; g = 2.176, D = -0.128 cm-1, E/D = -0.783 for 4; g = 2.258, D = 14.288 cm-1, E/D = 0.095 for 5. DFT structure optimizations afforded HOMO and LUMO energies indicating that complex 1 is the most stable.

Tris(ethyl-enediamine)cobalt(II) sulfate.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [Co(II)(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)]SO(4), the cobalt example of [M(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)]SO(4), is reported. The Co and S atoms are located at the 2d and 2c Wyckoff sites (point symmetry 32), respectively. The Co atom is coordinated by six N atoms of three chelating ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules generated from half of the ethyl-enediamine mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The O atoms of the sulfate anion are disordered mostly over two crystallographic sites. The third disorder site of O (site symmetry 3) has a site occupancy approaching zero. The H atoms of the ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules inter-act with the sulfate anions via inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.
