Tris(1,10-phenanthroline-?N,N')nickel(II) dinitrate tetra-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](NO(3))(2)·4H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is octa-hedrally coordinated by three bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, each forming a five-membered chelate ring. In the crystal, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds are present between the complex cations, nitrate anions and water mol-ecules. O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the uncoord-inated water mol-ecules lead to the formation of a four-membered ring water cluster, with a planar configuration. There were an additional five grossly disordered water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, which were removed by the subroutine SQUEEZE; these were were excluded in the calculation of the molecular weight, etc. ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings are also observed [centroid-centroid distances = 3.697?(2), 3.728?(2) and 3.761?(2)?Å].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][Cr(2)O(7)]·4H(2)O, contains one cation, one anion and four water mol-ecules, three of which are disordered over two sites with equal occupancies. In the cation, the metal centre is coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The [Cr(2)O(7)](2-) anion exhibits a staggered conformation. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions, evidenced by short distances of 3.531?(5)?Å between the centroids of aromatic rings.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](2)[Ag(CN)(2)](3)(NO(3))·4.2H(2)O, crystallizes with two independent [Ni(phen)(3)](2+) cations (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline; both Ni atoms have threefold symmetry and N(6) donor sets), three near-linear [Ag(CN)(2)](-) anions, one nitrate anion (N site symmetry 3) and 4.2 water mol-ecules of crystallization, some of which are disordered. The [Ag(CN)(2)](-) anions are situated within cavities created by the phenanthroline ligands of adjacent [Ni(phen)(3)](2+) cations. Some short C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions may help to establish the packing.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](C(7)H(4)BrO(2))(2)·6.5H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The chelating phen ligands exhibit nearly perfect coplanarity (r.m.s. deviations of 0.048, 0.039 and 0.061 Å). The mean inter-planar distances of 3.51 (2) and 3.54 (4) Å between adjacent phen ligands indicate π-π stacking inter-actions, which connect the complex cations into chains along [101]. The 4-bromo-benzoate anions and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules, parts of which are not fully occupied, are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Two carboxyl-ate O atoms and one Br atom in the 4-bromo-benzoate anions are each disordered over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.60 and 0.40.

In the crystal structure, pairs of complexes are linked by double hydrogen bonds, forming a one-dimensional chain-like structure. Aromatic π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation = 3.768 (2) Å] and further hydrogen bonds generate a two-dimensional structure. The water O atom also lies on a crystallographic twofold axis.

One of the three O atoms of the trianion that is engaged in chelation also binds to the bis-(phenanthroline)-chelated Zn(II) unit, whose five-coordinate geometry is distorted owing to a long Zn?O inter-action [2.401?(2)?Å]. The dinuclear cations, nitrate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network via O-H?O hydrogen bonds between water molecules and carboxylate O atoms.

Project description:Single crystals of the title heterometallic compound, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][Cr(NCS)(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](2)·3CH(3)CN·H(2)O or [Fe(Cphen)(3)][Cr(NCS)(4)(phen)](2)·3CH(3)CN·H(2)O, were pre-pared using the one-pot open-air reaction of iron powder, Reineckes salt and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in acetonitrile. The asymetric unit consists of an [Fe(phen)(3)](2+) cation, two [Cr(phen)(NCS)(4)](-) anions, three acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules and a water mol-ecule. The Fe and Cr atoms both show a slightly distorted octa-hedral FeN(6) and CrN(6) coordination geometry with adjacent angles in the range 79.67?(12)-95.21?(12)°. No classical hydrogen bonding involving the water molecule is observed.

In the cationic unit, the Ni(2+) atom is coordinated by four N atoms and two O atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. In the anionic unit, the Ni(2+) atom is in a square-planar coordination by four C atoms from four monodentate terminal cyanide ligands. O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighboring cationic and anionic units, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. The inter-stitial tetra-hydro-furan mol-ecule is independently disordered over two sites in a 1:1 ratio.

The Ni-N bond lengths range from 2.074?(2) to 2.094?(2)?Å. The dihedral angles between the three chelating NCCN groups to each other are 85.71?(3), 73.75?(2) and 85.71?(3)°, respectively. The Ni cation, the phenyl ring of the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and the lattice water molecule are located on special positions (site symmetry 2). In the crystal, the uncoordinated 2,4,5-tricarb-oxy-benzeno-ate anions join with each other through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded layer structure along the bc plane. The layers are further linked via additional O-H?O inter-actions between water and carboxyl groups, resulting in a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
