(4-Hydroxy-methyl-1H-imidazole-κN)bis-(tri-tert-butoxy-silanethiol-ato-κO,S)cadmium(II).

ABSTRACT: The Cd(II) atom in the title compound, [Cd(C(12)H(27)O(3)SSi)(2)(C(4)H(6)N(2)O)], is penta-coordinated by two O and two S atoms from the O,S-chelating silanethiol-ate residue and one N from the 4-hydroxy-methyl-imidazole ligand and shows a strongly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The title complex is isostructural with its zinc analog. The hydroxy group of the ligand is involved in intra-molecular O-H⋯S hydrogen bonding and also acts as an acceptor in the formation of an inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond, which links mol-ecules of the complex into zigzag chains parallel to the b axis. One of the tert-butyl groups is disordered over two orientations with occupancies of 0.557 (12):0.443 (12).

Project description:The title compound, [Zn(2)(C(12)H(27)O(3)SSi)(4)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(CH(4)O)], is a binuclear complex with the two Zn(II) atoms linked via a bridging 4,4'-bipyridyl ligand. One of the Zn(II) atoms is penta-coordinated by two O,S-chelating tri-tert-butoxy-silanethiol-ate units and one N atom of a 4,4'-bipyridine ligand, and the other Zn(II) atom is tetra-hedrally coordinated by two tri-tert-butoxy-silanethiol-ate anions acting as monodentate S ligands, the methanol O atom and the other N atom of the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand. This non-symmetrical coordination induces twisting and bending in the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand and introduces chirality into the system. The crystal studied exhibits inversion twinning. One tert-butyl group is disordered approximately equally over two positions.

Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecule and the carboxyl-ate O atoms of 4-methyl-benzoate lead to an infinite chain. Project description:The dinuclear title compound, [Cd(2)(C(7)H(5)O(3))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], is located on a crystallographic rotation twofold axis. The two Cd(II) ions are connected by two tridentate bridging 2-hydroxy-benzoate anions. Each Cd(II) ion is seven-coordinated by five O atoms from three 2-hydroxy-benzoate ligands and two N atoms from 1,10-phenanthroline. The 2-hydroxy-benzoate mol-ecules adopt two kinds of coordination mode, bidentate chelating and tridentate bridging-chelating. Intra-molecular hydrogen bonds between hydr-oxy and carboxyl-ate groups from 2-hydroxy-benzoate groups and π-π stacking interactions between parallel 1,10-phenanthroline ligands [centroid-centroid distances = 3.707 (3) and 3.842 (3) Å] are observed. Furthermore, adjacent benzene rings from 2-hydroxy-benzoate ligands are involved in π-π inter-actions with inter-planar distances of 3.642 (3) Å, thereby forming a chain along the a axis direction.

The mol-ecular structure features intra-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal structure, the complex mol-ecules are assembled into a two-dimensional supra-molecular layer parallel to (011) via O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions between the pyridyl and pyrazole rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.544 (2) and 3.722 (3) Å].
