ABSTRACT: In the title coordination polymer, {[Ni(C(8)H(10)O(4))(C(10)H(14)N(4))]·0.25H(2)O}(n), the coordination of the Ni(II) ion is distorted octa-hedral. The 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligand and the cyclo-hexane-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate dianion bridge metal centres, forming a two-dimensional (4,4) network. The network is consolidated by O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the statistically occupied water molecules and O atoms of the two carboxylate groups.

Each 1,1'-(1,4-butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligand coordinates to two Mn(II) atoms located in adjacent layers via Mn-N coordination bonds, giving a three-dimensional network. As the methyl-ene groups can bend freely relative to each other due to the C atoms connected via single bonds, the 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligand forms an S-shaped conformation, which makes the void in the three-dimensional network distorted.

Project description:The structure of the polymeric title compound, [Ni(2)(C(8)H(10)O(4))(2)(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), features a five-coordinate Ni(II) centre defined by four carboxyl-ate O atoms from two different cyclo-hexane-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate (chdc) ligands and an N atom from one end of a 1,4-bis-(imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene (1,4-bix) mol-ecule. The NO(4) coordination geometry is distorted square-pyramidal with the N atom in the apical position. Each end of the chdc ligand links pairs of Ni(II) atoms into a paddle-wheel assembly, i.e. Ni(2)(O(2)CR')(4). These are connected into rows owing to the bridging nature of the chdc ligands, and the rows are connected into a two-dimensional grid via the 1,4-bix ligands. The 1,4-bix ligand, which is disposed about a centre of inversion, is disorderd. Two positions of equal occupancy were discerned for the -H(2)C(C(6)H(4))CH(2)- residue.

Two positions were discerned for the -CH(2)(C(6)H(4))CH(2)- residue, with the major component having a site-occupancy factor of 0.512?(9).

Project description:The title one-dimensional coordination polymer, [ZnCl(2)(C(10)H(14)N(4))](n), was synthesized by hydro-thermal methods from ZnCl(2) and 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole. The Zn atom is coordinated by two chloride ions and two N atoms from two symmetry-independent organic ligands and shows a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligands are located around two sets of inversion centers and bridge Zn(II) ions, forming a zigzag polymeric chain. C-H?Cl hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
