Bis(μ-biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ato)bis-[(2,2'-bipyridine)copper(II)].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Cu(2)(C(14)H(8)O(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], was obtained by solvothermal synthesis. The Cu(II) atom is coordinated by one chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand and two carboxyl groups from different biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ate ligands, leading to a distorted octahedral environment. Each carboxyl-ate group makes one short Cu-O bond [1.9608 (14) and 1.9701 (14) Å] and one longer Cu-O contact [2.4338 (17) and 2.5541 (17) Å] to each Cu(II) atom. The biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ate ligands bridge between Cu(II) atoms, forming a dinuclear complex around a crystallographic inversion centre.

The title compound, [Cu(2)(C(14)H(8)O(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], was obtained by solvothermal synthesis. Project description:In the title compound, [Co(2)(C(14)H(8)O(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], the Co(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from one 2,2'-bipyridine ligand and two O atoms from two biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ate (2,2'-dpa) ligands in a distorted planar geometry. Longer Co-O contacts [2.437 (3) and 2.552 (3) Å] are formed to the second O atom of each coordinated carboxyl-ate group so that these groups approximate a bidentate coordination mode and the coordination geometry around Co(II) approaches distorted octa-hedral. The 2,2'-dpa ligands bridge two Co(II) atoms, forming a cyclic dinuclear complex around a centre of inversion.

Project description:In the centrosymmetric dinuclear mol-ecule of the title compound, [Cd(2)(C(14)H(8)O(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)], the Cd(2+) ion is coordinated by three O atoms from two different diphenyl-dicarboxyl-ate (dpa) ligands (one O,O'-bidentate and one monodentate), a chelating bipyridine ligand and a water mol-ecule, generating an extremely distorted trigonal-prismatic (or irregular) CdN(2)O(4) coordination geometry for the metal ion. The bridging ligands generate an 18-membered ring, which is stabilized by two pairs of intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

The local coordination polyhedron around the Nd(III) ion is a bicapped trigonal prism. The Cu(2+) ion is six-coordinated by three water O atoms, and two N atoms and one O atom of the 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxyl-ate bridging ligand in a sligthly distorted octa-hedral environment. The 2,2-bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxyl-ate bridges link the Cu(2+) ions into chains along the b-axis direction. These chains are further linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the water solvent mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional framework.
