Bis[2-(2-pyridylmethyl-amino)ethane-sulfonato-?N,N',O]zinc(II).

ABSTRACT: The title mononuclear complex, [Zn(C(8)H(11)N(2)O(3)S)(2)], is a zinc salt of 2-(2-pyridylmethyl-amino)ethane-sulfonic acid (Hpmt). The Zn(II) ion is located on an inversion centre and is octahedrally surrounded by four N and two O atoms. The deprotonated pmt(-) anion coordinates in a facial arrangement through its two N atoms and one of the sulfonate O atoms. The crystal packing is determined by inter-molecular N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The hydro-thermally prepared title compound, [Co(C(2)H(6)NO(3)S)(2)](n), is isotypic with its Ni(II) analogue. The Co(II) cation is in a distorted octa-hedral environment, coordinated by four sulfonate O atoms and two N atoms from the taurine ligands. In comparison with the Ni(II) analogue, the Co-N and Co-O bonds are longer than the Ni-N and Ni-O bonds, whereas all other bond lengths and angles as well as the hydrogen-bonding motifs are very similar in the two structures. The sulfonate groups doubly bridge symmetry-related Co(II) atoms, forming polymeric chains along the a axis. N-H?O hydrogen bonding interactions consolidate the crystal packing.

Project description:The title complex, [Cd(Paba)(2)]·2H(2)O or [Cd(C(12)H(9)N(2)O(3)S)(2)]·2H(2)O, was synthesized by the reaction of the potassium salt of 2-(2-pyridylmethyl-eneamino)benzene-sulfonic acid (PabaK) with CdCl(2)·2.5H(2)O in methanol. The Cd(II) atom lies on a crystallographic twofold axis and is coordinated by four N atoms and two O atoms from two deprotonated tridentate 2-(2-pyridylmethyl-eneamino)benzene-sulfonate ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment. There are extensive hydrogen bonds of the type O-H⋯O between the uncoordinated water molecules and the sulfonate O atoms, through which the complex forms a layered structure parallel to (001).
