ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Cu(C(12)H(15)Cl(2)N(2)O)(2)], the Cu(II) ion is coordinated by one N,O-bidentate and one N,N',O-tridentate Schiff base ligand, resulting in a distorted CuN(3)O(2) square-based pyramidal coordination for the metal ion, with the O atoms lying trans to each other in the basal plane.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(2)(NCS)(2)(C(13)H(17)Cl(2)N(2)O)(2)], was obtained by the reaction of 3,5-dichloro-salicylaldehyde, N,N-diethyl-ethane-1,2-diamine, sodium thio-cyanate, and copper(II) acetate in an ethanol solution. It crystallizes as a centrosymmetric dimer with a very long Cu⋯S axial bond [2.972 (3) Å]. The Cu atom is five-coordinated by the three donor atoms of the Schiff base ligand, 2,4-dichloro-6-[(2-diethyl-amino-ethyl-imino)meth-yl]phenol, one N atom of a thio-cyanate group, and one S atom of a symmetry-related thio-cyanate group, forming a slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry.

Each Cu(II) atom is five-coordinated by one imine N, one amine N and one phenolate O atom of the Schiff base ligand, and by two N atoms from two bridging thio-cyanate ligands, forming a square-pyramidal geometry. Beside the two thio-cyanate bridges, there are two intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, which further link the two Cu(C(12)H(17)N(2)O(2))(NCS) units. The Cu?Cu separation is 3.261?(2)?Å. Parts of the methylaminopropylimino segment are disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.669(9) and 0.331(9).

Project description:The title compound, [Cu2(C9H10NO2)4], is built of discrete centrosymmetric dimers. The Cu(II) atoms are each five coordinated by two deprotonated Schiff base ligands that are bonded differently to the metal atoms. Of the two phenolate O atoms, one is coordinated to one Cu(II) atom, whereas another bridges the two metal atoms. The basal plane of the square pyramid around Cu(II) atoms is formed by the imino N and phenolate O atoms of the bidentate and the monodentate/bidentate Schiff base ligands. The bridging phenolate oxygen occupies the apical position of the coordination sphere with a considerably longer Cu-O bond length. In the crystal, the dimeric mol-ecules pack relative to each other in such a way that the Cu2O2 planes of adjacent dimers are orthogonal.

The Mn(III) ion is hexa-coordinated by two N and two O atoms from two phenolate ligands and two N atoms from two azide ligands. The Mn(III) cation lies on an inversion centre and, as a result, the asymmetric unit comprises one half-mol-ecule.
