ABSTRACT: The reaction of zinc chloride and 2-methyl-8-hydroxy-quinoline in methanol yielded the title monosolvated salt, (C(10)H(10)NO)[ZnCl(2)(C(10)H(8)NO)]·CH(3)OH, which has the Zn atom within a distorted Cl(2)NO tetra-hedral coordination geometry. Supra-molecular chains feature in the crystal structure, comprising all components of the structure stabilized by a combination of O-H?O, N-H?O and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonding.

In the crystal, adjacent ion pairs and solvent mol-ecules are linked by a methanol-halogen O-H?Br hydrogen bond, generating a chain running along the a axis.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(19)H(18)NO(2))(2)[ZnI(4)]·CH(3)OH, each cation is nearly planar and exists in an E configuration, the dihedral angles between the quinolinium systems and the benzene rings being 1.78?(10) and 5.44?(10)° for the two cations. The [ZnI(4)](2-) anion displays a very slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. There are intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the hydr-oxy and meth-oxy groups in each cation which generate S(5) ring motifs. In the crystal structure, cations are linked together by O-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?O inter-actions, whereas the anions are linked to the cations through weak C-H?I inter-actions. The asymmetric unit also contains a methanol solvent mol-ecule which is linked to one of the cations by an O-H?O hydrogen bond and the anion through an O-H?I hydrogen bond. The crystal is further stabilized by C-H?? and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances 3.6054?(15) and 3.6057?(15)?Å].

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(12)O(7)P(2)·CH(4)O, is a monoesterified bis-phospho-nate (or 1-hydroxy-methyl-ene-1,1-bis-phospho-nic acid). These synthetic compounds are widely used in medicine to inhibit bone resorption in diseases like osteoporosis, and are characterized by a stable P-C-P group and are thus analogs of inorganic pyrophosphate. By masking one or several ionizable groups, introduced as phosphono-ester, it was anti-cipated the formation of prodrugs with higher lipophilicity that could facilitate the drug delivery and metabolization. Mol-ecules are paired by inter-molecular hydrogen bonds involving the phospho-nic groups. In addition, dimers are connected side-by-side, building infinite ribbons along the a-axis direction; these ribbons are cross-linked perpendicularly along the b-axis direction via a methanol solvent mol-ecule (disordered over two sites with occupancy factors ca 0.6 and 0.4), forming an extended inter-molecular hydrogen-bonded network. The H atoms of the methyl group in the main molecule are disordered equally over two positions.
