Catena-Poly[[[triaqua-manganese(II)]-?-4,4'-bipyridine-?N:N'-[triaqua-manganese(II)]-?-pyrimidine-4,6-dicarboxyl-ato-?N,O:N,O] sulfate trihydrate].

ABSTRACT: The two independent Mn(II) ions in the polymeric title compound, {[Mn(2)(C(6)H(2)N(2)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(6)]SO(4)·3H(2)O}, exhibit distorted MnN(2)O(4) octa-hedral coordination geometries, with the pyrimidine-4,6-dicarboxyl-ate (pmdc) ligand acting in the bis-chelating ?-(?O,?N:?O',?N') bridging mode and the 4,4'-bipyridine (bpy) ligand in the ?-(?N:?N') bridging mode. The remaining coordination sites are occupied by O atoms of water mol-ecules. As a consequence, cationic chains of [Mn(2)(?-pmdc)(?-4,4'-bpy)(H(2)O)(6)](2+) are generated, which extend approximately along the a axis. Sulfate counter-anions and three uncoordinated water mol-ecules complete the structure, which is stabilized by multiple O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the structural units.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Mn(C(15)H(8)O(7))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(3)]·C(10)H(8)N(2)·2H(2)O}(n), the bridging mode of the coordinating 4,4'-bipyridine ligands leads to the formation of polymeric zigzag chains parallel to [0-11]. The chains are separated by 4,4'-bipyridine and water solvent mol-ecules. Within a chain, the Mn(II) atom is six-coordinated by two N atoms of the bridging 4,4'-bipyridine ligands, three water O atoms and one carboxyl-ate O atom of a single deprotonated 3-(4-carb-oxy-phen-oxy)phthalic acid ligand. Both coordinating and solvent 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules are situated on centres of inversion. An intricate network of O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds involving the carb-oxy group, the coordinating water mol-ecules and the two types of solvent mol-ecules leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

The manganese atoms are alternately bridged either by two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 12.284?(1)?Å, or by two carboxyl-ate groups from two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 4.064?(1)?Å, thus producing polymeric chains propagated in [101]. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance of 3.730?(3)?Å between the aromatic rings of neighbouring polymeric chains] further stabilize the crystal packing.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(6)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Mn atoms are each coordinated by four O atoms of naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two N atoms of two symmetry-related 4,4'-bipyridine ligands within a strongly distorted octa-hedra. One 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule bridges two Mn atoms, forming a centrosymmetric dinuclear complex; the mid-point of the C-C bond linking the pyridine rings of the bridging ligand is located on an inversion center. Each Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water and two 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Mn(II) atom deviates by 0.591?(5) and 0.209?(2)?Å from the mean planes of the coordinated pyridine rings. In the 4-(4-pyridyl)pyridinium cation, the two pyridine rings are twisted with respect to each other, making dihedral angle of 34.78?(17)°. The uncoordinated bipyridine mol-ecule is also centrosymmetric. One of uncoordinated water mol-ecules has site symmetry 2, and the other uncoordinated water mol-ecule is located close to an inversion center and its one H atom is disordered equally over two sites. Extensive ?-? stacking between pyridine rings is observed and an extensive hydrogen-bonding network of the types N-H?N, O-H?N and O-H?O is present.

Project description:The title binuclear complex, [Co(2)(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(6)], has been synthesized hydro-thermally from 3-nitro-phthalic acid (H(2)NPA), Co(NO(3))(2)·6H(2)O and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy). The mol-ecule of the complex occupies a special position on an inversion centre. The Co(II) atom has a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment formed by two N atoms from two 4,4'-bipy ligands, one carboxyl-ate O atom from NPA, and three O atoms of water mol-ecules. An extensive O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen-bonding system links mol-ecules of the complex into a three-dimensional network.

In the anionic chain, the Cd atom lies on a center of inversion in an octa-hedral geometry. The midpoint of the coordinated bipyridine also resides on a center of inversion, as does the non-coordinated bipyridinium counterion. O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonding inter-actions and ?-? stacking inter-actions in the structure are responsible for the supra-molecular assembly.
