Poly[[(1,10-phenanthroline)(?-l-tartrato)zinc] hexa-hydrate].

ABSTRACT: The title compouand {[Zn(C(4)H(4)O(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·6H(2)O}(n), has a linear chain structure parallel to [100] with Zn(C(4)H(4)O(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2)) repeat units; the asymmetric unit consists of one Zn(2+) cation, one l-tartrate dianion, one 1,10-phenanthroline and six free water mol-ecules. The Zn atom is in a distorted octa-hedral ZnN(2)O(4) coordination environment. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking of the phenanthroline units [centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.552?(2)-3.625?(2)Å] occurs between the chains. The title compound is isotypic with the Cu and Mn analogues.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Zn(C(7)H(10)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·6H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by two carboxyl-ate O atoms of a mono-bidentate chelating pimelate anion (pimelic acid is hepta-nedioic acid) and four N atoms of two phenanthroline ligands, forming a considerably distorted octa-hedral ZnN(4)O(2) coordination geometry. The complexes are assembled into a three-dimensional network via C-H?O, C-H?? and ?-? inter-actions. The mean inter-planar distance between adjacent phenanthroline ligands is 3.399?(2)?Å.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, was obtained unexpectedly during an attempt to synthesize a cadmium complex with bidentate bridging sulfate ligands via hydro-thermal synthesis. The Cd(II) metal ion is six-coordinated by two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two water mol-ecules, resulting in a distorted octa-hedral geometry for the metal ion. The two chelating N(2)C(2) groups are almost perpendicular to each other [dihedral angle = 86.75?(2)°]. In the crystal, the [Cd(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) complex cations join with the sulfate anions through two O(water)-H?O(sulfate) hydrogen bonds. These ion pairs are further inter-linked into a two-dimensional supermolecular structure via additional O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, the complex cations assemble into positively charged sheets parallel to (010) via inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions with a mean interplanar distance of 3.410?(6) along [100] and 3.465?(5)?Å along [001]. The sulfate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected between these layers by hydrogen bonds, forming negatively charged layers which are linked to the positive layers through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional architecture. Both the positive and negative sheets are stacked along [010] in an ?ABAB? sequence, the A layers being shifted by 1/2a along [100] with respect to the B layers. One of the uncoordinated water molecules is equally disordered over two positions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(2)(C(8)H(6)O(8))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(6)]·6H(2)O, contains a half of the centrosymmetric dinuclear complex mol-ecule and three uncoordinated water mol-ecules. In the dinuclear mol-ecule, two Ni(II) cations are bridged by the butane-1,2,3,4-tetra-carboxyl-ate (BTC(4-)) anion. Each Ni(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one O atom from the BTC(4-) anion and three aqua ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Inter-molecuar O-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking inter-ations [centroid-centroid distances = 3.646?(2), 3.781?(2) and 3.642?(2)?Å] consolidate the crystal packing.

Project description:The title compound, {[Cd(C(4)H(4)O(6))]·0.167H(2)O}(n), adopts a three-dimensional network structure in which each Cd(II) ion is chelated by two pairs of carboxyl-ate and hydroxyl O atoms from two tartrate anions, and is additionally linked to two O atoms of two carboxyl-ate groups that are not involved in chelation. The asymmetric unit has four independent cadmium atoms, two of which lie on special positions of 2 site symmetry. The tartrate anions all lie on general positions. All hydroxyl groups are engaged in O-H?O hydrogen-bonds, one of which is also bifurcated. The non-coordinating water molecule is situated on a site with half-occupation.

The six crystallographically independent uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected by hydrogen bonds, completing dodeca-water (H(2)O)(12) clusters which are hydrogen bonded to the carboxyl-ate groups of phenyl-acetate anions, building up one-dimensional anionic chains propagating along [100]. Between the cationic and anionic chains are hydrogen bonds from water mol-ecules to the carboxyl-ate O atoms belonging to the phenyl-acetato ligands.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](C(7)H(4)BrO(2))(2)·6.5H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The chelating phen ligands exhibit nearly perfect coplanarity (r.m.s. deviations of 0.048, 0.039 and 0.061 Å). The mean inter-planar distances of 3.51 (2) and 3.54 (4) Å between adjacent phen ligands indicate π-π stacking inter-actions, which connect the complex cations into chains along [101]. The 4-bromo-benzoate anions and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules, parts of which are not fully occupied, are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Two carboxyl-ate O atoms and one Br atom in the 4-bromo-benzoate anions are each disordered over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.60 and 0.40.

Project description:The nitrilo-triacetate trianion in the title compound, [Zn(2)(C(6)H(6)NO(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)]NO(3)·6H(2)O, is engaged in N,O,O',O"-chelation to the phenanthroline-chelated Zn(II) unit, giving a distorted octa-hedral geometry for the metal atom. One of the three O atoms of the trianion that is engaged in chelation also binds to the bis-(phenanthroline)-chelated Zn(II) unit, whose five-coordinate geometry is distorted owing to a long Zn?O inter-action [2.401?(2)?Å]. The dinuclear cations, nitrate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network via O-H?O hydrogen bonds between water molecules and carboxylate O atoms.
