ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of the title compound, [Mg2Br2(C9H11)2(C4H10O)2], features a centrosymmetric two-centre magnesium complex with half a mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The Mg atom is in a considerably distorted Br2CO coordination. Bond lengths and angles are comparable with already published values. The crystal packing is stabilized by C-H?? inter-actions linking the complexes into sheets parallel to (0-11).

Project description:The title benzyl Grignard reagent, [Mg(2)Br(2)(C(7)H(7))(2)(C(4)H(10)O)(2)], was obtained by reaction of benzyl bromide with magnesium in diethyl ether, followed by crystallization from toluene. The asymmetric unit comprises one half-mol-ecule, the structural dimeric unit being generated by inversion symmetry with an Mg⋯Mg distance of 3.469 (2) Å. The Mg(II) atom exhibits a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. The crystal packing is defined by van der Waals inter-actions only.

The low-temperature structure of diethyl ether magnesium oxybromide.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, hexa-μ(2)-bromido-μ(4)-oxido-tetra-kis-[(diethyl ether)magnesium], [Mg(4)Br(6)O(C(4)H(10)O)(4)], determined from data measured at 173 K, differs from the previously known structure of diethyl ether magnesium oxybromide, which was determined from room-temperature data [Stucky & Rundle (1964 ▶). J. Am. Chem. Soc. 86, 4821-4825]. The title compound crystallizes in the tetra-gonal space group I[Formula: see text], whereas the previously known structure crystallizes in a different tetra-gonal space group, namely P[Formula: see text]2(1)c. Both molecules have crystallographic [Formula: see text] symmetry and show almost identical geometric parameters for the Mg, Br and O atoms. The crystal of the title compound turned out to be a merohedral twin emulating a structure with apparent Laue symmetry 4/mmm, whereas the correct Laue group is just 4/m. The fractional contribution of the minor twin component converged to 0.462 (1).

Project description:The Mn(II) ion in the title compound, [Mn(CH(3)CO(2))(2)(C(18)H(12)N(6))(H(2)O)]·H(2)O, is seven-coordinated in an approximately penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry by three N atoms of the tridentate 2,4,6-tri-2-pyridyl-1,3,5-triazine ligand and four O atoms from two distinct anionic acetato ligands and a water mol-ecule. One acetate anion chelates the Mn atom via two O atoms occupying equatorial positions, and the other anion coordinates the Mn atom as a monodentate ligand via one O atom. The complex and solvent water mol-ecules are linked by inter- and intra-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

Crystal structures of 2,4,6-tri-iodo-benzo-nitrile and 2,4,6-tri-iodo-phenyl isocyanide.

Project description:The title crystals, C7H2I3N, are isomorphous. Both mol-ecules lie across two crystallographic mirror planes and a twofold axis. The principal supra-molecular inter-action is centric R22(10) CN/NC⋯I short contacts involving both ortho I atoms, with two contacts bis-ecting each cyano and iso-cyano group. These form ribbons along [010] and give rise to a planar sheet structure parallel to (100). All pairs of adjacent sheets have centric stacking, a mode not previously reported for sheets of this type. This study completes the series of homo-2,4,6-trihalobenzo-nitriles, in which I atoms give the strongest CN⋯X and NC⋯X inter-actions (X = F, Cl, Br, I).

Project description:In the title compound, [Al2Br4(CH2)(C4H10O)2], the mol-ecule lies on a crystallographic twofold axis passing through the bridging C atom. Each AlIII atom is four-coordinate, being bonded to two bromide ions, bridging the CH2 group as well as the oxygen atom of a diethyl ether ligand in a slightly distorted tetra-hedral arrangement with angles ranging from 101.52 (8) to 116.44 (5)°. The Al-CH2-Al angle, 118.4 (2)°, is the smallest observed for a structure where this moiety is not part of a ring. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯Br inter-actions, characterized as R 2 2(12) rings, link the mol-ecules into ribbons in the [101] direction. The title compound is monomeric and coordinatively saturated in the solid state, as each aluminum is four-coordinate, but in solution the ether mol-ecules from either or both Al atoms can dissociate, and would be expected to rapidly exchange, and this is supported by NMR data.

The cations and lattice anions are linked by O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

Grignard Reagent-Catalyzed Hydroboration of Esters, Nitriles, and Imines.

Project description:The reduction in esters, nitriles, and imines requires harsh conditions (highly reactive reagents, high temperatures, and pressures) or complex metal-ligand catalytic systems. Catalysts comprising earth-abundant and less toxic elements are desirable from the perspective of green chemistry. In this study, we developed a green hydroboration protocol for the reduction in esters, nitriles, and imines at room temperature (25 °C) using pinacolborane as the reducing agent and a commercially available Grignard reagent as the catalyst. Screening of various alkyl magnesium halides revealed MeMgCl as the optimal catalyst for the reduction. The hydroboration and subsequent hydrolysis of various esters yielded corresponding alcohols over a short reaction time (~0.5 h). The hydroboration of nitriles and imines produced various primary and secondary amines in excellent yields. Chemoselective reduction and density functional theory calculations are also performed. The proposed green hydroboration protocol eliminates the requirements for complex ligand systems and elevated temperatures, providing an effective method for the reduction in esters, nitriles, and imines at room temperature.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mo3(CH3COO)(C4H10O2PS2)3S4(C10H8N2)]·C4H10O, the complex mol-ecule has a trinuclear incomplete cuboidal structure which is coordinated by three kinds of ligands, namely, diethyl di-thio-phosphate, acetate and 4,4'-bipyridyl. If Mo-Mo bonds are ignored, each Mo atom can be considered as six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Mo-Mo distance of 2.6880?(5)?Å for two the Mo atoms bridged by the acetate ligand is shorter than the other two Mo-Mo distances [2.7490?(5) and 2.7566?(5)?Å]. One ethyl group is disordered between two conformations in a 0.65?(3):0.35?(3) ratio. In the crystal, weak C-H?O inter-actions link the trinuclear mol-ecules related by translation in [100] into chains. The crystal packing exhibits short inter-molecular S?S contacts of 3.1886?(13)?Å. In other words, in this crystal packing, a supramolecular structure is constructed by the C-H?O and S?S interactions.
