{2-[2,2-Bis(4,4-dimethyl-4,5-di-hydro-1,3-oxazol-2-yl-?N)prop-yl]pyridine}-dichlorido-iron(II).

ABSTRACT: The title compound,[FeCl2(C18H25N3O2)], has a distorted tetra-hedral Cl2N2 coordination of the Fe(II) atom as a result of the constraints imposed by the 2-[2,2-bis-(4,4-dimethyl-4,5-di-hydro-1,3-oxazol-2-yl)prop-yl]pyridine ligand. The pyridine ring is almost perpendicular to the six-membered chelated ring containing the metal atom [dihedral angle between their mean planes = 88.5?(1)°].

The phenyl rings make dihedral angles of 30.56?(5) and 84.57?(3)° with the pyridine ring and 72.85?(3)° with each other.

In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are connected through C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds between a C-H group of the ligand and a Cl(-) anion, leading to a chain-like structure along the b direction.

A cis-AuCl(2)N(2) square-planar geometry for the cation and a square-planar AuCl(4) geometry for the anion result. The two C atoms and the N atom of the acetonitrile mol-ecule all have m site symmetries. In the crystal structure, weak C-H?Cl inter-actions may help to establish the packing.
