ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [PdCl(2)(C(11)H(10)N(2)S)], the Pd(II) ion is four-coordinated in a distorted square-planar environment by two N atoms of the chelating 2-[(thio-phen-2-ylmeth-yl)imino-meth-yl]pyridine ligand and two chloride anions. The thio-phene ring is rotationally disordered over two orientations in a 1:1 ratio. The crystal packing exhibits weak inter-molecular C-H?Cl and C-H?S hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The Cu(II) atom in the title complex, [CuCl(2)(C(12)H(9)IN(2))], has a square-planar coordination being N,N'-chelated by the Schiff base ligand, and by two Cl atoms. The geometry is distorted towards square pyramidal owing to a long Cu⋯Cl inter-action of 2.941 (1) Å. This results in the formation of a zigzag chain structure propagating in the c-axis direction.

The range for the six bond angles about the Cu(2+) cation is 81.49?(11)-145.95?(9)°. The chelate ring including the Cu(II) atom is approximately planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.039?(4)?Å for one of the C atoms; this plane forms a dihedral angle of 46.69?(9)° with the CuCl(2) plane.

With the exception of the Br atoms, all other atoms are disordered over two sets of sites corresponding to a 180° rotation of the mol-ecule along [[Formula: see text]02]. The Pd atom displays a slightly distorted square-planar geometry, with the N- and C-atom donors in a cis arrangement.
