New 1,1'-Ferrocene Bis(sulfonyl) Reagents.

ABSTRACT: Several new 1,1'-bis(sulfonyl)ferrocenes designed for the synthesis of sulfonamide linked biological conjugates have been prepared. 1,1'-Bis(sulfonylbromide)ferrocene can be produced from the corresponding sulfonylchloride via a bis(sulfonylhydrazide) intermediate. Bis(sulfonyl-N-hydroxybenzotriazole)ferrocene can also be synthesized from the sulfonyl chloride, and reaction of glycine methyl ester with the sulfonyl chloride affords a [3]ferrocenophane complex. All new compounds have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Project description:A series of 1,1'-bis(sulfonyl)ferrocene compounds were produced via the 1,1'-bis(sulfonate)ferrocene ammonium salt. This compound can be readily converted to 1,1' bis(sulfonylchloride)ferrocene. By varying stoichiometry and reaction times, both mono- and bis-sulfonamide derivatives can be synthesized. All new compounds presented in this report have been structurally characterized. The structures of the bis-sulfonamide systems are similar to the well-studied bis(amide) ferrocene compounds. Intermolecular hydrogen bonding is observed, typically between NH and SO groups of neighboring sulfonamides. However in the bis(GABA) derivative, intermolecular NH to CO hydrogen bonding interactions are present.

A new monoclinic polymorph of 1,1'-bis-(di-phenyl-thio-phosphor-yl)ferrocene.

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(C17H14PS)2], is a second monoclinic polymorph (P21/c, with Z' = 1) of the previously reported monoclinic (C2/c, with Z' = 1/2) form [Fang et al. (1995 ▸). Polyhedron, 14, 2403-2409]. In the new form, the S atoms lie to the same side of the mol-ecule with the pseudo S-P⋯P-S torsion angle being -53.09 (3)°. By contrast to this almost syn disposition, in the C2/c polymorph, the Fe atom lies on a centre of inversion so that the S atoms are strictly anti, with a pseudo-S-P⋯P-S torsion angle of 180°. The significant difference in mol-ecular conformation between the two forms does not result in major perturbations in the P=S bond lengths nor in the distorted tetra-hedral geometries about the P atoms. The crystal packing of the new monoclinic polymorph features weak Cp-C-H⋯π(phen-yl) inter-actions consolidating linear supra-molecular chains along the a axis. These pack with no directional inter-actions between them.

Project description:In the title compound, [FeRu(C(17)H(14)P)(2)(C(6)H(8)BN(4))H(CO)]·C(3)H(6)O, the Ru(II) ion is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral environment involving a hydride ligand, a carbonyl ligand and two bidentate ligands. Of the two bidentate ligands, the bulky 1,1'-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino)ferrocene (dppf) ligand chelates with a larger bite angle of 101.90 (2)°, whereas the bite angle of the [H(2)Bpz(2)](-) ligand (pz = pyrazol-yl) is 85.67 (7)°. The latter ligand creates an RuN(4)B six-membered ring with a boat conformation, which puckers towards the site of the small hydride ligand. The hydride ligand is cis with respect to the carbonyl ligand and trans to one of the P atoms of the dppf ligand. In the crystal structure, there are weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between complex mol-ecules and acetone solvent mol-ecules.
