Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels are highly regulated proteins which respond to different cellular stimuli. The HCN currents (I<sub>h</sub>) mediated by HCN1 and HCN2 drive the repetitive firing in nociceptive neurons.
