Catena-Poly[[(dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine)cobalt(II)]-?-biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ato].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C(14)H(8)O(4))(C(18)H(10)N(4))](n), the Co(II) atom is six-coordinated by four O atoms from two different biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ate ligands and two N atoms from the bidentate dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Co(II) atoms are bridged by the biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxyl-ate ligands to form a one-dimensional chain structure. ?-? inter-actions between neighbouring chains result in a two-dimensional supra-molecular network (centroid-to-centroid separation = 3.381?Å).

An O-bonded symmetry-related dianion completes the coordination of the metal. The bridging dianion results in a one-dimensional polymeric chain. Aromatic ?-? stacking inter-actions between ligands [centroid-centroid separations = 3.528?(2) and 3.741?(2)?Å] and O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the chains together, leading to a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:The title compound, [Sm(2)(C(14)H(8)O(4))(3)(H(2)O)(2)](n), is composed of one-dimensional chains and is isostructural with previously reported compounds [Wang et al. (2003 ?). Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. pp. 1355-1360]. The asymmetric unit contains two Sm atoms, each of which lies on a crystallographic twofold axis. Both crystallographically independent Sm atoms are coordinated by eight O atoms in a distorted dodeca-hedral arrangement. The polymeric chains run along [001]. Adjacent chains are connected through ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.450?(2)?Å], forming a two-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Each PZDC(2-) dianion serves as a spacer, connecting adjacent metal atoms into a polymeric chain structure parallel to the b axis.
