ABSTRACT: In the title compound, {[Co(C(10)H(14)N(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]Cl(2)·4H(2)O}(n), the Co(II) atom and the mid-point of the 1,1'-butane-1,4-diyl-diimidazole ligands lie on inversion centers. The Co(II) atom is six-coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment by four N atoms from four different ligands and by two O atoms from the water mol-ecules. The Co(II) atoms are bridged by the ligands into a (4,4) net. Adjacent nets are linked to the chloride anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules via O-H?Cl and O-H?O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(20)N(4) (2+)·2BF(4) (-), was prepared by the anion exchange of a dibromide ionic liquid with sodium tetra-fluoro-borate. The asymmetric unit contains one half of the imidazolium cation, which lies about an inversion centre at the mid-point of the central C-C bond of the linking butyl chain. The two planar imidazole rings (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0013?Å) are strictly parallel and separated by 2.625?(7)?Å [vertical distance between the centroids of two imidazole rings], giving the mol-ecule a stepped appearance. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular C-H?F hydrogen bonds link the cations and anions, generating a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title one-dimensional coordination polymer, [ZnCl(2)(C(10)H(14)N(4))](n), was synthesized by hydro-thermal methods from ZnCl(2) and 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole. The Zn atom is coordinated by two chloride ions and two N atoms from two symmetry-independent organic ligands and shows a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligands are located around two sets of inversion centers and bridge Zn(II) ions, forming a zigzag polymeric chain. C-H?Cl hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

The Co(II) ion has site symmetry 2 and one of the 4,4'-bpy ligands is generated by twofold symmetry [two N atoms and two C atoms lie on the rotation axis and the dihedral angle between the pyridine rings is 45.66?(5)°]. The other 4,4'-bpy ligand is generated by a crystallographic inversion center. The Co(II) ion exhibits a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry defined by two O atoms of two coordinating water mol-ecules and four N atoms from four bridging 4,4'-bpy ligands. The structure is consolidated by O-H?O, C-H?O and C-H?N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, C(10)H(16)N(4) (2+)·2NO(3) (-), the organic cation is located around an inversion centre. The imidazolium ring forms a dihedral angle of 62.7?(3)° with the plane defined by the C atoms of the -(CH(2))(4)- aliphatic linker. Two anions bind to the cation via three-centre N-H?O hydrogen bonds and thus discrete hydrogen-bonded ion triples are formed. The nitrate is approximately coplanar with the imidazolium ring to which it binds.
