Catena-Poly[[(nitrato-κO)(1,10-phenanthroline-κN,N')manganese(II)]-μ-nitrato-κO:O'].

ABSTRACT: In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Mn(NO(3))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), the Mn(II) atoms are linked by nitrate ligands to form a chain. Each Mn(II) atom is five-coordinated by two N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and three O atoms of two nitrates within a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry. In the crystal structure, the chains are linked by hydrogen bonds into a polymeric ribbon structure.

Project description:The title complex, {[Mn(C(14)H(6)O(8)S(2))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·4H(2)O}(n), exhibits a chain-like polymeric structure with 9,10-dioxo-anthracene-1,5-disulfonate anions bridging Mn(II) atoms in a bis-monodentate mode. The unique Mn(II) atom is located on a crystallographic centre of inversion. Four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two sulfonate O atoms from two symmetry-related 9,10-dioxoanthracene-1,5-disulfonate anions give rise to a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment around the Mn(II) centre. The centroid of the central ring of the anthraquinone ligand represents another crystallographic centre of inversion. In the crystal structure, inter-ligand π-π stacking [centroid-to-centroid distances 3.532 (1) and 3.497 (3) Å] and inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions assemble the chains into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:The title complex, [Mn(C(5)O(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], lies across a crystallographic twofold axis which passes through the Mn atom and bisects the croconate ligand. The two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands are arranged in a propeller manner and the local mol-ecular geometry of the MnN(4)O(2) unit is severely distorted octa-hedral. This may be inter-preted as a structural perturbation of the MnN(4) square by the croconate ligand. In the crystal structure, the dipole moments of the mol-ecules are arranged alternately along the +b and -b directions. All the phen ligands are involved in π stacking inter-actions, alternately along the [110] and [10] directions. Each of the four phenoxy-acetate anions bridges the pair of Mn atoms. The asymmetric unit is completed by a half-occupancy methanol solvent mol-ecule. Face-to-face π-π stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline molecules belonging to adjacent Mn(2) complexes, with an inter-planar separation of circa 3.4 Å, and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the dinuclear units into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

The metal ion is bis-chelated by two N-heterocycles as well as by the nitrate/nitrite ions in a distorted dodeca-hedral CdN(4)O(4) coordination environment. One nitrite group is ordered; the other is disordered with respect to a nitrate group (ratio 0.75:0.25) concerning the O atom that is not involved in bonding to the metal ion.
