The absolute stereochemistry was determined from the use of d-galactose as the starting material. Project description:Addition of methyl lithium to d-erythrono-1,4-lactone followed by acid deprotection was shown, by X-ray crystallography, to give 1-de-oxy-d-arabinitol, C(5)H(12)O(4), rather than 1-de-oxy-d-ribitol as the major product. The crystal structure exists as hydrogen-bonded chains of mol-ecules running parallel to the c axis which are further linked together by hydrogen bonds. Each mol-ecule is a donor and an acceptor for four hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the two independent but very similar mol-ecules of the title compound, C(11)H(14)N(2)O(6), both nucleobase fragments are nearly planar (both within 0.01?Å) while the furan-ose rings exhibit (2)E-endo envelope conformations. In the crystal, the two 3'-O-acetyl-2'-de-oxy-uridine mol-ecules form a pseudosymmetric dimer of two bases connected via two nearly identical resonance-assisted N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The resulting pair is further connected with neighboring pairs via two similar O-H?O bonds involving the only hydroxyl group of the 2'-de-oxy-furan-ose fragment and the remaining carbonyl oxygen of the nucleobase. These inter-actions result in the formation of an infinite 'double band' along the b axis that can be considered as a self-assembled analogue of a polynucleotide mol-ecule with non-canonical Watson-Crick base pairs. The infinite chains of 3'-O-acetyl-2'-de-oxy-uridine pairs are additionally held together by C-H?O inter-actions involving C atoms of the uracyl base and O atoms of carbonyl groups. Only weak C-H?O contacts exist between neighboring chains.

Project description:The title compound, C(6)H(12)O(5), is the ?-pyran-ose form of the reducing aldose 2-de-oxy-d-arabino-hexose. The six-membered pyran-ose ring adopts a (4)C(1) conformation, with the anomeric hy-droxy group in axial and the other substituents in equatorial positions. In the crystal, each of the four hy-droxy groups acts as an inter-molecular hydrogen-bond donor function, resulting in a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.

Project description:The title compound, C(51)H(78)N(4)O(12), is a derivative of rapamycin, a triene macrolide anti-biotic mol-ecule isolated from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. The macrocyclic ring structure has 15 chiral centres, with one of the substituent hy-droxy groups giving an intra-molecular hydrogen bond to a ketone O-atom acceptor. The mol-ecules also form inter-molecular hy-droxy-ketone O-H?O hydrogen-bonding associations, giving one-dimensional chains extending along (010). The crystal has 108?Å(3) solvent-accessible voids.

Project description:The title compound, C(38)H(50)O(5) {systematic name: 10-(3-hy-droxy-benzo-yl)-2,2,7,7-tetra-methyl-3,6,8-tris-(3-methyl-but-2-en-yl)-3,4,4a,5,6,7-hexa-hydro-4a,8-methano-2H-cyclo-octa-[b]pyran-9,11(8H)-dione}, is a polyisoprenylated benzophenone, isolated for the first time from the fruits of Garcinia indica during our investigation of bioactive compounds from this plant and their large-scale extraction. The relative configuration of the title compound was chosen based on comparison of its spectroscopic and optical rotation data with that of the isomorphous and isostructural compound isogarcinol, whose absolute configuration is known. The crystal packing features O-H?O hydrogen bonds. A Cambridge Structural Database analysis revealed that the crystal structure reported here is isomorphous and isostructural with that of isogarcinol.
