ABSTRACT: The title compound C(12)H(17)N(3)O(2) (+)·Cl(-) consists of a discrete [NITpPyH](+) cation [NITpPy = 2-(4'-pyrid-yl)-4,4,5,5-tetra-methyl-imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide] and a chloride anion. The NITpPy mol-ecule is protonated at the N atom of the pyridyl ring. The anions and cations are connected via N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(12)H(17)N(3)O(2) (+)·ClO(4) (-), consists of 4,4,5,5-tetra-methyl-2-(4-pyridinio)imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide radical cations and perchlorate anions. Both the cation and the Cl atom of the anion are located on the same twofold rotation axis, and the crystal structure shows the average structure for the radical cation. The five-membered ring assumes a half-chair conformation. The cation links with the anion via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

The asymmetric unit comprises one-half of the mol-ecule and the Mn(II) ion is located on an inversion centre. The coordination geometry around the Mn(II) ion is slightly distorted octa-hedral, comprised of four O and two N atoms, in which the four O atoms in the equatorial plane come from two pentane-2,4-dionate ligands and the two N atoms in the axial coordination sites from 4,4,5,5-tetra-methyl-2-(4-pyrid-yl)imidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxide.
