(S(P),S(P))-(-)-(E)-1,2-Bis(methyl-phenyl-phosphino-yl)ethene.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(16)H(18)O(2)P(2), possesses two stereogenic P atoms and shows a distorted s-cis conformation of each O=P-C=C moiety. This has been suggested on the basis of the stereochemical result of 1,3-dipolar cyclo-additions with nitro-nes and is now confirmed by the present crystal structure analysis. There are two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit.

The distorted penta-gonal-bipyramidal coordination about each metal atom is completed by the N atoms of bridging 1,2-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)ethene ligands, which link these one-dimensional chains into a two-dimensional net extending along the (101) plane.

Project description:Crystals of the title compound, C(30)H(20)F(12)P(2) or R(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PR(2) (R = 4-C(6)H(4)CF(3)), were inadvertently prepared while attempting to recrystallize a crude sample of trans-Re(Cl)(N(2))(R(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PR(2))(2) from diethyl ether. The molecule lies on a center of inversion. One of the rings lies approximately in the P-C-C-P plane; the dihedral angle is 174.53°.The other ring is not quite perpendicular; the dihedral angle is 71.1°. The compound is isostructural with the R = Ph, 4-C(6)H(4)CH(3) and 4-C(6)H(4)CH(2)CH(3) analogues. It is well known that the basicity of phosphines and diphosphines can be altered by changing the electron-donating ability of R; however, the structural parameters for the title compound do not significantly differ from those of the aforementioned substituted-phenyl compounds.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(2)(C(2)H(4))(2)(C(25)H(22)P(2))(2)]·2C(7)H(8), each Ni atom is coordinated in a trigonal-planar geometry by two P atoms of the bridging 1,2-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino)methane (dppm) ligands and by the centroid of the double bond of an ethene ligand. An eight-membered ring comprising the two Ni atoms, four P atoms and the CH(2) groups of the two dppm ligands is thus formed. The methyl group in one of the solvent toluene mol-ecules is disordered over two positions with equal occupancies.

The Co(II) cations are each coordinated by two N-bonded thio-cyanate anions and four 4-bpe ligands within a slightly distorted CoN6 octa-hedron. The two independent Co(II) cations are linked by the 4-bpe ligands into two distinct layers, parallel to the ac and bc planes, that inter-penetrate. From this arrangement, channels are formed in which non-coordinated 4-bpe and lattice water mol-ecules are hydrogen-bonded into chains that elongate in the c-axis direction.

The two essentially planar quinoxaline ring systems [maximum deviations = 0.012 (1) and 0.022 (1) Å] are inclined at an angle of 59.84 (3). In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked into chains propagating along [001] via inter-molecular C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds.
