Dichloridobis(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione-κN,N')mercury(II).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [HgCl(2)(C(12)H(6)N(2)O(2))(2)], the Hg(II) atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and exists within a distorted octa-hedral geometry defined by a cis-Cl(2)N(4) donor set. Mol-ecules are connected into layers in the ac plane via extensive C-H⋯Cl contacts as each Cl atom forms two such inter-actions. Contacts between the layers are of the type C=O⋯π [O⋯centroid distance = 3.110 (8) Å].

Project description:The Hg(II) atom in the title complex, [HgI(2)(C(12)H(6)N(2)O(2))], is tetra-hedrally coordinated by the N atoms of the chelating 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione ligand and two I atoms. The range of tetra-hedral angles is broad, viz. 68.94?(17)° for the chelate angle to a wide 132.627?(15)° for the I-Hg-I angle. The ligand mol-ecule is non-planar with the O atoms lying 0.422?(5) and -0.325?(5)?Å out of the plane through the remaining atoms [r.m.s. deviation = 0.068?Å]. Mol-ecules are consolidated in the crystal packing by C-H?O inter-actions.

Project description:In the title complex, [PtCl2(C12H6N2O2)]·CH3CN, the Pt(II) atom lies in a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement defined by an N2Cl2 donor set. In the packed structure, columns of complex moieties are stacked such that the neighboring units are oriented at 180° and laterally displaced with respect to each other. This prevents any overlap of the phenanthroline rings and thus there is no possibility of any ?-? inter-actions between aromatic rings.

NADH Electrooxidation Using Bis(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione) (2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II)-Exchanged Zirconium Phosphate Modified Carbon Paste Electrodes.

Project description:We present a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified using the electron mediator bis(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione) (2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) ([Ru(phend)(2)bpy](2+)) exchanged into the inorganic layered material zirconium phosphate (ZrP). X-Ray powder diffraction showed that the interlayer distance of ZrP increases upon [Ru(phend)(2)bpy](2+) intercalation from 10.3 Å to 14.2 Å. The UV-vis and IR spectroscopies results showed the characteristic peaks expected for [Ru(phend)(2)bpy](2+). The UV-vis spectrophotometric results indicate that the [Ru(phend)(2)bpy](2+) concentration inside the ZrP layers increased as a function of the loading level. The exchanged [Ru(phend)(2)bpy](2+) exhibited luminescence even at low concentration. Modified CPEs were constructed and analyzed using cyclic voltammetry. The intercalated mediator remained electroactive within the layers (E°' = -38.5 mV vs. Ag/AgCl, 3.5 M NaCl) and electrocatalysis of NADH oxidation was observed. The kinetics of the modified CPE shows a Michaelis -Menten behavior. This CPE was used for the oxidation of NADH in the presence of Bakers' yeast alcohol dehydrogenase. A calibration plot for ethanol is presented.
